The Dreaded Search Button

its a feature built in to stop the board being crashed by people doing lots of 2 and 3 letter searches with "the" or "is" cos if a bunch of hackers wanted to get together they cousl fire off lots of searches for these words that would bring back millions of results and this heavy load could crash the site.. its called a DOS attack (denial of service) however, its pissing me off too :) so i will altewr it, but turn on a timer that you can only do one search every 15 or 30 seconds..

sound better?

That would prevent flooding Macker. If you can drop the minimum search lenght to 2, that would be great. There are a lot of 3 letter acronyms used here (BCC, FCD, FPR, PMT, STD etc :homer:) and it would be handy to search for them.

I find the search engine generally shit. I was searching the other day for a post I made a while back. I knew what was in the title but couldn't find it at all.

dreaded search button once again

hi peoples, i know quite a few people (including myself) are finding it hard to locate things via the search button. i was just wondering if maybe a mod could explane in more detail why it brings up so much random threads? is it because it not only searches for the specified words in the thread title but also in the posts inside that thread? also is there any tecnique to making your searches less random? any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys:)

The dreaded search function.

Just been searching for a few things and was quickly reminded how useless the site search function is.

Thought I'd give Google's site search function a go and was rather impressed.

So for those that didn't know, just type site:www.toyotagtturbo.com in the Google search box after whatever it is you want to search the site for. I found what I was looking for almost straight away.

you just gotta know how to use it is all, i always find that if you search for thread titles as opposed to content then you generally find what your looking for.

the amount of 3 letters or less acronyms ruins the searching on here

yeah i agree that can be annoying but i dont search for 3 letter words much so its not much of an issue,

that google search seems pretty good

I've merged all the threads about the Search function into one to keep everyone on track. Have a read back through the old discussions.

It's something I can't access the controls for so Macker will need to address it. It also annoys me too.

Search option...

When i try useing the search option at the top i get this alot...

The search term you specified (lsd) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

Thing is how do you make some word's bigger than 3 letter's when searching for things???

Is there anyway to change it???

Or is it just me not doing it correctly????

Im not having a moan, its jus i was searching for somethink the other day)cant remember what) and i gave up in the end...
