ST185 2 POT Brake Setup

Managed to get hold of the calipers for £45 for the pair, bargain!

So I just need:

Discs
Pads
3mm spacer to sit behind disc
Longer studs to accomodate for spacer

So was wondering. Is there any point in getting uprated pads and disc's or will the stock be OK, keeping in mind the car is under 1000kg but is running 265hp?

People seem to have issues with grooved discs cracking etc, so can do without the trouble.

Any thoughts?

Pads yes, discs no i'd say. Stock pads would be ok. but to be honest uprated ones would be better

Great find! Just remember that when you upgrade the front pads, you should also upgrade the rear pads. Just upgrading the fronts will alter your brake bias great than 60/40, especially with the extra clamping force from the dual pistons on the front.

Thanks Franza and David.

I will see what the prices are like from Toyota. Might find uprated discs are cheaper than Toyota ones!

OK cool David.

So:

2 POT calipers
Standard discs
Uprated pads all round...

:D

The discs are basically the same size as the 4e ones just thicker and the pad size is almost the same aswell. I was going to do it but didnt bother in the end cause i seriously doubted it would improve. It would be better fitting ST202 ones Gee as they are much bigger

Reason I am going for 2 POT's is because the bigger ones will only fit under 16" rims and I want to retain 15" rims.

Ps. Does it matter that my car has ABS?

i fitted ebc redstuff in mine gee and made it a bit too sudden to be honest. locks up very easily compared to stock. i would just stick to standard. the difference will be dramatic, trust me.

Oh OK. Nice to hear some first hand experience.

I'm not up with ABS etc. Will the calipers work just find with ABS?

Damage,

I will give these ago first. For £45 for the pair, you can't go wrong and people seem to be getting good results with them. Car weighs nothing!

Get slightly better pads. Something that also works great when cold as you won't warm up the brakes as fast. Mintex extreme?
Don't think you need uprated discs, but it does look good and won't cost that much more? They won't crack as fast because they don't get as hot as your standard brakes, so you can go with drilled discs if you want it to look good.;)

id just go with normal rotors, and some decent street pads. with the bigger pads/rotors you wont get enough heat into a high temp pad to keep it at operating temp unless you are tracking it all the time.
