ST185 2 POT Brake Setup

Fitted these last week before a track day. Excellent brakes, more stopping power and very little fade all day, thats not even on Toyota discs and pads, just spurious items.

The track has 2 long straights so there is heavy braking from about 110mph into a 60mph corner and also a hairpin, they felt good and were a lot better than the Gt 10 groove 3G and Mintex 4411 pad set up I was using before.

I would like to get the longer studs for mine. I only got 6 full turns on the wheel nuts. I think the threads are 1.5mm pitch, so thats 9mm of thread used. For 12mm studs you should have 18mm of thread used.

Does someone have the longer studs part number handy?

John, i was wondering the same thing, surely something like a celica maybe must have longer studs as standard then the starlet so we could make use of them...

GoldenVTR uses standard studs, but I'd prefer longer studs personally.

What length, pitch and thread do we actually need?

Lanxter,

I believe he is using standard 25mm ST185 discs, which have been drilled.

GEE i think the best thing 4 u to do is have a beer ,remove ur stock disc and callipers, fit the new ones and by yourself measure the thickness of the spacer needed. Also u will know if u need longer studs:):)

As easy as you might find this task, I do not like messing with brakes and calipers and have never changed or removed them.

Thanks a lot.

I had 256 x 25, but I guess 1mm doesnt really matter :p

Do you run the setup Ted? What discs are you using?

i have a 4wd now. pete off the site has my old car now and weejohn has the same setup. it really is easy gee. i drilled a set of std 255x25mm celica discs to 4 stud then put the discs on over the spacers. the calipers bolt straight on and then all you have to do is bleed the thing.

with the sort of power you have i would recommend longer studs too.

OK thanks Ted.

How did you find the brakes in general? Did they take longer to work efficently, due to it taking longer to put heat into them?

Drilling an extra 4 holes in the disc did not weaken them?

Do you know then length of studs needed? For the Levin 2 POT setup, it is M12 x 1.5, 63mm length. Is it different for the ST185 setup?

i honestly dont know the stud size. probably just measure the std one and order some 3-6mm longer. ebay seems to have some. as they are off a standard car there is no initial warming period or anything like that. initial bite is similar then mid pedal the extra power becomes obvious. locking wheels at high speeds is a possibility until you get used to it.

So what parts do i actually need to do this?

St185 Caliper + carrier
St185 discs drilled for 4stud
St185 Pads (pref mintex)
Possibly longer studs?

So the caliper holding bracket bolts directly on the knuckles? There is no need to drill the bracket to match the bolting holes?
