When i turn the wheel 3/4 of a turn to the left, theres kind of a grinding/scraping sound. its not very loud but im pritty sure its got worse. turning right doesnt really make any noise what could this be?

Im about to fit my relocation kit. firstly, is the instructions say wrap some teflon tape around the male fitting on the hose. is this essential (i dont have any tape)? also, where would be good to relocate the filter to? the hoses are about 30"
