stretched tyres apparently will have more surface contact on the ground, more solid, less roll! i think....forgive me if im wrong

No you are right Pete, you just need to make sure you don't go too mad as you don't want the tire coming off. This is 165/50/15 stretched onto a 7 inch rim, not as wide overall as the 195 comes out at around 185 the contact patch is 2 x good.

We find 195/50 888's are just too bouncy, the side wall are bloody huge like a tractor! It all depends on wheel width as well. If your munching side walls that quickly look into your suspension/chassis setup as well, looks like it's running quite high. What bound and spring rates are you all using and what about bushes?

I only have last years prices from Hoosier but see as follows:

For circuit ;

P225/45ZR-15 DOT Sports Car Radial slick @ £154.00 + vat each

P205/50R- 15 DOT Sports Car Radial WET @ £150.00 + vat each

I don't have any other sizes or prices at the moment as these were for our 9inch wide rims but can get them. The main problem with such small wheels like 15's is choice, not many out there. I tried and tested so many sizes and got the best results from the stretched tires as 195/50 just wasn't right at all, comparing contact patches and overall tread. The yok a048r is another competent road legal semi slick.

It's not that stretched tires have more contact it's just they don't do the right sizes for our little cars so we had to stretch to get the best results.

All the drifters have their tyres like this Paul, noticed that the few times we were at Bishopscourt. If we buy slicks new, we will set them like this as well.

The conversion is nearly done, we had to use the Corolla gearbox so we are hoping it wont disintegrate after a few sessions with the extra torque going through it, time will tell!

try track tires as mentioned above...i tink u need negative camber esp on that left side...what is your whp? and suspension?

Toby@toy- the car is on standard shocks which seem fine to me but lowered 45mm, all bushes, links seem dead on. Maybe streched tyre's is the way forward we have a spare set of rim's so might try two out.

WeeJohn- the drifters would be wanting to go sideways less roll in the tyre, I think were on to something, smaller is better lol pardon the pun

fastglanza- Yeah we have thought of negative camber but the 2 big straights in kirkiston are hard enough to keep straight line braking as it is. Car has lowering springs not sure of make 45mm ones with standard shockers. horsepower at the wheels i'm going to take a guess as a paseo is about 100bhp @ flywheel so about 88-92bhp at the wheels, which isn't v much lol

just go to a good tyre shop and ask them to tr 185 and 175 see what one is best, i think with the cornering you will be doin 185 is far enough so the tyre will actually stay on for you!

That's your problem bud you need a better suspension setup no wonder your going through so many side walls! :homer:

We have the same on ours Toby, to be honest, its not a bad set up.

The shocks keep it soft enough to allow you to ride the bumpstrips round Kirkiston, something you cant do in a hardened Starlet. The track is also quite bumpy on 1 corner exit and into the 2 main braking areas, so its a good compromise for control.

Plus the rollas steer from the rear with just throttle lift off, we made a rear strut brace last year and took it off after 2 sessions, it made the back end tighter and actually slowed our lap times!!

I see sounds like a mad track, to be honest there are worst ones down here! You could get some coilovers and customise the bound/rebound rates as well as the spring rates so that it's similar to the setup you have now, this would also give you more adjustability but know where you are coming from.

Have you guys checked the condition of all your bushes as well?

As John was saying, compromise on both is hard as a bit of lean on the car is actually good on kirkiston, its the only way to get round some of the corner's(into the corner lift off feather the throttle for a little oversteer) if we were to go hard suspension i'm thinking we would get alot of understeer and brown pant molments especially through the chiane. Car is going up on the ramp this weekend i'll maybe just replace most of the front bushes to be sure.

I've looked the web can't get coilovers for the corolla, can you get a price for the corolla, she's a 1996 3 door corolla sportif

Yea they are fucked lol, our car cost us £200, we didnt expect much, but we loved it and could not kill it so it has become family now.

Honestly its still great fun, more so than the Starlets as we dont give a shit about it really!!
