Arch rubbing on tyre

When I have any passengers in the back of my car and i go over slight bumps, the right rear arch metal catches on the tyre and has started to take chunks out of the rubber. I don't know if i need an adjustable panhard rod (as the car is lowered) or new shocks. How can i check the shocks to see if they are buggered?
I don't have much knowledge when it comes to suspension, so any help would be great!

If you've lowered the car then you need a panhard rod, the axle will be mis-aligned at present causing uneven ware, rubbing and poor handling. If you look at the gap between the tire sidewall and the arch you should notice a bigger gap.

We can supply both the WL panhard rods and RS*R rods if needed. I doubt your shocks are gone unless you've lowered on stock shocks and there leaking. Rock the car, the shocks should settle after one push, if it flops at all or bounces back then you need to remove and inspect..

Thanks,

^beat me to it.. good advice as usual Tobs

also if shocks are gone they make a noise in most cases and on inspection you will notice if they are "leaking"

as toby said fella,

and my personal veiw is to go for the rs*r panhard rod, the qaulity of this item is second to none and is a much better unit, than the whiteline.

i got delivered both by mistake, and after having a look at them i'm glad my final decision was to go for the rs*r one, the difference in qaulity in my opinion is worth the extra dosh.

They are adjustable on car which is a good advantage and less faffing around for whoever sets the geometry. The WL will do the same job it's just more of a pain, good none the less. The RS*R quality is second to none as Ricky stated. Persoanlly I have the WL rod because it was free so can't complain!

Cheers! Thats great advice lads. I didn't lower the car myself as it came like this from Japan. I thought i might have needed the panhard rod as the rubbing was only on one side. Just wanted to make sure so i didn't buy two things when i only needed one!

p.s please can i have a free whiteline rod? :p

What I really think you should do is...get the right wheel offset!! I have the same issue on my car!! Really bugs me since it's basically a 2seater - cause if someone gets in the back - it rubs pffffff

It's only one one side though, as long as you stick to 35 you'll be fine with a rod (no pun intended). Would love to give out WL parts guys but no can do, I did there items cheap enough in the group buys :)

On a side note we have the entire catalogue of WL items on the car for free but you don't want to hear that :p There not complaining considering we depleated the entire UK stock of WL items in the last GB..

I was only joking! when I've sorted my cash out i'll probably be asking for an RS*R rod! who would be able to fit this for me? Any garage or a specialist?

The first thing to check.

A standard suspension setup can suffer this problem if the offset is incorrect. Stick as close as you can to ET38. ET35 causes this issue as the wheel is further from the hub and usually catches the bodywork from past experience.

Also renew the damaged tyre. The sidewalls have been subject to damage. Last thing you need is a blowout at high speed (probably with passengers). Safety first.

Surely if the offset was a problem then it would be on both sides?
I'm pretty sure they are the right offset wheels anyway but i will double check.
Good advice on the tyres though, i want to get some yokohama s-drive's anyway. More reason to now!
