i have just spent hundreds on a cat 1 thatcham approved alarm for my Glanza V only to find when i called to advise my insurance company, it made my policy increase in price. i asked why and they classed it as a modification as it wasnt standard on the car! what a joke and a :slap: in the face!

Tried this many times in the past. Most alarms (From my experience) actually put the premium up, same with trackers! :argue:

on my previous policy iquoted for a tracker fitted plus cat 1 alarm, full comp £350

without tracker £900

i think you should get some new quotes on most insurance sites, it says having a thatcham alarm can reduce your premium up too 10%. so somethings not right there

I was told a tracker wouldn't make any difference to the premium (Sky insurance). As for the alarm i'm not sure, it was already fitted when i took my quote out. I can understand your company would charge an admin fee to change the policy but to say it's a "modification" is a bit ridiculous.

It's with Aviva. I kept telling the women it was a security feature and I had bought it to secure my car but she was having none of it. At first I thought I had wasted my money and time getting it fitted but it's piece of mind for me now. Just a bugger it's not put the insurance down!

I've just arranged cover with Sky Insurance and told them I'd bought a thatcham Cat 1 alarm and was having it fitted this week. The guy told me he was happy to deduct money off my premium so long as the alarm was fitted should I make a claim. I'd tell Aviva where to stick it unless they are still cheaper for you regardless of this premium increase.
