Crank pulley - is it true that... ?

I am not sure if the chip in the pulley will cause as much of a deteriation in bearings and crank life as feared.

I agree it is not ideal for it to be "unbalanced" due to the bit missing, but it would take a long time for the affects to be seen internally.

The damper in the pulley is to protect the crank from the affects of the engine, not the other way round.

I would still change it sometime Sheldon, but I would still drive mine if it was like that. Have a read here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic_balancer

all the crank pulley's on my 2 gt's and 3 engines have all had chipped crank pulleys,

i've never had an issue.

my engines have died of other causes NOT because the crank was out of balance because of a slight chip in the pully

I run a chipped pulley also with no problem at all for a small period of time.(small chip mishing tho)

But sheldon said at one of his post that he feels some vibration when built up the revs and he suspects that comes from the pulley problem maybe.
So if this is the case weejohn and ricky you wouldnt change yours immidiately?
I always prefer not leaving nothing in luck and good faith.

Also the dumper can absorb a specific amount of deformation/unballance. Meaning a dumper pulley will not save a situation with a bend crank or a serius unballance.
If sheldon has an internal problem wich the dumper pulley mask (so you dont feel anything) maybe the additional small chip is the drop over the glass.
I was in impresion that we all advice for the best....:homer:

Hey sheldon when i said change it i feel your engine is mine....;)

yeah i know chris.. but after some thinking the small vibration developed after changing to powerflex mounts and also after playing with the fuel presure.. so im asuming its "map" related

there is a bit of vibration going up in revs but im not sure if that was there or no before it was chipped? lol

I gave an opinion on the information I was given, just an opinion.
