Saying that I have a mate who works in London as a spark and there are loads of Australians working there with him. When he asked them why they are over here their answer was because all the Poms took their fucking jobs in Oz lol.

Been thinking of this for a while too, with my girlfriend and daughter.

I'm doing a course at the minute in Web Design, would you reckon there would be much work in that area out there GT_Irl?

My Girlfriend has worked in kitchens or the last few years, what about that area?

Johnny if you go don't come back, my sis went got a job near straight away, got offered sponsorship to stay on and came home, regretted it big time. Loads of her friends went and will never come home, bar visits every now and again. Canada is another option.

As has been mentioned, you'll have to convert any trade qualifications over to OZ equivalents at your cost, so just double-check that first. Secondly, start doing your homework NOW if you're considering moving there, the more prepped you are, the better you'll understand if you can afford the move (check wages, rental and house prices, food at online supermarkets, utility bills etc). Third, (and more homework), read and ensure you understand migration and what's required for being accepted, and check your points to assess your eligibility. It's a confusing, long and complicated process, so just be sure you know what you want (you can be sponsored for a visa, you can get a temp work visa etc etc etc). Also make sure you understand the implications of NOT having work, as you could get booted out if things don't go your way. And finally, don't be suprised if no-one wants to offer you a job whilst you're on the other side of the world. It's easy to say you'll come, but getting on the plane is a different story...

As for OZ itself, at the moment, it's more expensive than living in the UK/Eire due to the shite exchange rate, so visiting as a tourist is expensive (as is living off savings 'back home'). That said, when you start earning an OZ wage, it's all relative, so you won't notice too much difference. As has already been said, the West coast is the more prosperous area of OZ, and the wages are higher due to the vast mineral reserves and subsequent businesses out there. The East coast is also prosperous, but more for tourism. Sydney's horrendously expensive, as you would expect London to be. It's a great place, been there three times now, and it always challenges your mind as to why you live in cold, wet Europe.

Having travelled extensively, it's only when you go somewhere else that you realise the grass is no longer greener back home. You're only young once, don't waste it by just staying put, there's too much out there to see.

^ And LOL at the Kiwi answer above!!! Go the AB's eh?

Not sure on either mate, I suppose Perth would be a good place to look with the way things are taking off there mate

Use the online points calculator to see if you qualify to emigrate. If you get enough points, look at all the options (work visa, temp visas, residency etc). Getting sponsored is a great idea, BUT... Everyone will be after a job that sponsors, and unless you stand out from the crowd, getting work may be difficult when you're still overseas. You just really need to lock yourself in a room over the weekend, and read up on all your options. If it seems clear-cut, and you are going to apply, consider doing it yourself, as I've heard lots of immigration advisors are not all that good. If you're borderline, have a 'naughty' past, have medical 'issues', then an advisor might not be a bad idea...

There are plenty of online forums out there designed to help such as http://www.pomsinoz.com, so get reading, keep focused, and get out there!!! My brother-in-law's itching to get out there, hence the advice... ;)

why is it so hard to leave this country but seemingly so easy to just walk in?

I could come up with a multitude of answers of who's at fault, but I can't be bothered, so I'll just pick the biggest one... The EU...

I could be nasty and say do your homework... First place to start is here: http://www.immi.gov.au/. There's plenty of places online that offer points calculators to give you an idea if you've got a chance, so have a google mooch and see what you get.
