Emerald are not that far away from me does anyone know if they are any good ?

they are extremely good mate, really know there stuff, you can also buy a boost control module aswell, and you can have 2 maps programmed in 1 for street and one for track.

it has loads of other features aswell and there pretty easy to tune.

you will need to fit a resistor pack to your injectors to change the impedence, but they know how to do this, and i'm pretty certain if you give them your wiring diagram they be able to sort it.

You shouldn't need sperate maps for street and track use. If you have a proper map then you will get fuel economy on cruise and full performance on accel and high load

you can have an aggressive map for the track, and a safer one for the road,

so you can have huge power for track, and cut the power for while your driving round town,

people have there own reasons for wanting 2 maps, i was just saying it was possible to have.

Yeah you could do, but surely you want the most safe power you can have on the road? And with a good map you wont sacrafice fuel economy at all. So a more agressive map would just make it slightly more likely to melt something on track :haha:

But yeah there could be other reasons why people would want two maps, i was just saying you generally dont need two

There are many reasons for having additional maps, such as using different fuels etc, but yes you can map for both economy and power within the same map, people may want less power on the road and therefore not pushing the limits of the engine, whereas when on track they will want all out power :)

i agree with you totally mate

here we use lots of different ecus on ep's with similar results across the board, we use, megasquirt, microtech, haltech, pfc and even wolf

provided you have a good electrician and tuner you can pretty much get what you want out of the car with the only real consideration being price..........if ure tuner knows his shit with the ecu he is trying to tune then any basic standalone will be more than enough for the average street user

More than enough for the average street user and maybe also enough for really serius users.

First off, congratulations in identifying that a fully programable ECU is the right step to take! This is a giant leap for TGTT.com!

You want to consider a few things:

- How much functionality is required
- An ECU that is popular in Britain for better support
- Local tuners available to you

- Omex / Link / Emerald (These are all similar, I think Omex and Emerald use the same mapping software)
- Motec / Autronic (If you want to burn cash!)

There is no point in buying a Motec if you're going to be using the basics. You don't need to worry about harness' etc, it shouldn't be a problem to wire up - there isn't much required:

TPS, CTS, AIT, MAP, Distributor trigger / Ignition, Injectors. You may need to change some sensors to be compatible with the ECU.

There's not much else to it, most will require boost to be controlled by another device be it MBC or EBC.

Just make sure you go somewhere who knows what they are doing.

OMEX - is worth a look at, is relatively cheap, but you will need to run a resistor pack on the injectors to make them low impedence instead of high impedence (might be other way round cant 100% remember)

It's the other way around,

You need ballast resistors if you want to run low impedance injectors, for high impedance injectors (12+ ohms) nothing is required, just a 12v feed. As far as I'm aware the stock injectors are high impedance.

I think I bought these:

Saves trouble.

ah cheers, but the injectors starlets use definately need the ballast resistor as there old technology and not many vehicles use low impedence anymore.

obviously this is only need if you dont use high impedence injectors

so what ecu as im confused guys theres that many

i dont like the sound of building my own so to speak

would rather just get 1 thats plug and play

if you have a tuner that you trust, speak to him and see what he suggests, theres nothing worse than having something that they dont like mapping.

that would be the best advice as anyone can give you fella.

i have noticed ye are all on about emerald, link, motec etc. and no mention of ther apexi power fc ecu, just wondering why is this?and do you not rate this ecu up with th rest of these ecus?

well tbh mate i was going to just go to a mapper who likes whatever ecu ive chosen

so that doesent really matter to me

if you get what i mean
