Good to hear you got it sussed lad, that's a new one on me.

If you have a pic of the failed part in question it would forewarn others. I might even have a few spares you can have for nothing..

Cheers for the update,

Jay

Gotta say thanks to Dave Burwash aswell for directing me to a reliable garage.
Thanks dude!

Alright guys,

ive been having a couple of issues with my heaters making alot of noise now, sounds like i may need to check the motor for any shaft play or debris but could anyone explain exactly where it is behind the glovebox please. i have searched previous threads but i cannot see any pictures for some reason and would really like to know that i am disconnecting the correct parts.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

The Heating System - A General Overview

From my notes:

An area that is generally taken for granted until it stops working. Seeing as I've had a bit of experience with it's components I'll do my best to explain the operation and repair.

The Principles

Air enters the cabin through a hole on the passenger side of the bulkhead. It passes through the blower motor (1) (which controls the speed), the aircon evaporator (2) (which supercools the air if required), the main heater box (3) (which controls the path of the air and heats it via the heater matrix if required), and finally comes out of the airvents (4) into the cabin.

The heater controls will adjust each of these components using either cables or electronic motors depending on which aircon system is fitted (manual or climatronic).

thanks for the tutorial pics mate, very helpful to know if any other bits go wrong. its just the heater motor making a whining noise so wanted to drop it out and clean it.

its good to know what each part behind the dash looks like incase i ever need to rip some other parts out.

cheers

The blower fan sits behind your glovebox. You can unbolt it from below and drop it out into the footwell for inspection, just look for the black circular bit and unbolt it.

works brilliantly now, was covered in shit. took the entire motor apart and blasted all the shit out. makes a lil clicking noise now when on, not loud though. i suppose that is because the shit has gone now and the metal shaft may be rubbing against the metal motor cover.

either way, worked a treat. cheers for the pics, may clean out the whold system soon.

The fan speed only works at one speed? Sounds electrical. Might be the heater resistor Johnnyboy.

The resistor is bolted into the housing behind your glovebox. There's a plug with two screws either side. It'll be a block of white ceramic material. If it's broken up that might be your problem.

Merged this thread with previous ones to add some background to proceedings.

nice one jay,and great tutorial lad.

looks like my problem could be the blower motor.

The aircon system generally requires regas every two to three years to maintain it's ice-cold effect.

The actual heater system is seperate from this issue. Lack of heat (cold/lukewarm air at best) could be heater matrix related.

Do you hear the heater flaps moving behind the dashboard when the controls are operated?

This would be the first case I've heard of a control panel going faulty so that's why I'm asking questions.

i can hear the flaps moving on my ep82,is that the control panel?

swapped the blower motor and the resister and still nothing.
there is power at the back and blue wire at the motor, but none at the 2 blue and red ones, which i belive control the fan speed.
i trace one back to the resistor, and the other to the fan switch.
tryed the fan in a friends car and it worked perfect, didnt try the resistor though.

im ready to tear my hair out at this stage, ive changed the resistor, the blower fan, main fusebox relay and fuse, and heater control panel, and its still the fucking same.
on settings 1-4 on the panel,it comes on at 2 an stays like it,even if i go to 3 or 4,its like its not getting the power.
