Help! Control panel has packed in.

Hey people.

I need some help.
Put my Glanza in the garage to have the heating looked at as it does not get hot and the AC does not get cold.
Conclusion was that the push button control panel has packed in.

Spoke to Toyota and they are quoting me over £300 for a new one.
I havent got that kind of money at present and now winter is here its becoming a problem not having any heating.

Anyone know of any breakers i can get a control panel from or anyone that has crashed their Glanza or somin i can get one out of????

Alternativaly is it possible to transplant the swivel knob style control panel into my Glanza?
Will this be more cost effective?

Help would be apprieciated.
Thanks

Are you on about the whole control panel or just the push button air-con controls (The one with two little buttons on)? If it's the aircon button part, mine is currently sat in my glove box as the air con was removed and binned before I had the car. I don't know if they work but you are welcome to them if you want them.

Thanks though.

The aircon system generally requires regas every two to three years to maintain it's ice-cold effect.

The actual heater system is seperate from this issue. Lack of heat (cold/lukewarm air at best) could be heater matrix related.

Do you hear the heater flaps moving behind the dashboard when the controls are operated?

This would be the first case I've heard of a control panel going faulty so that's why I'm asking questions.

Yeah the heater flaps all move ok. All the lights on buttons work fine. All the fans work fine too.
Just no temperature changes. Hot or cold.
The fella at the garage told me that it was the control panel but im not sure as everything else works fine.
What else could it be do yo think?

Has anyone got a diagram or a set of photos that explain where the heater matrix is and how i can flush it through?
I assume that the garage i took it to would have done this already but im not 100%.
People can try and mug you off sometimes so its probably better if i do it myself.

If anyone can suggest anything that i could check myself i would apprieciate it.

Hey man, sounds like it maybe a heater matrix problem. Its an absolute ball ache to do, as its a dash out job.
The matrix is located on the passenger side behind the dash. Best thing to do first, would be to take the section of air ducting off behind the glovebox and put your hand on the matrix itself, to see if its hot or cold once the car is up to running temp.

You could also try blasting out your rad and matrix pipes in the engine bay with a hose, to see of theres any gunk in there, that maybe blocking the heating system.
Hope that helps

I usually end up doing heater matrix replacements locally. Doesn't seem to be enough brave mechanics about FFS. It'll take an age to upload the pics and diagrams I have complied but if you can give me a few nights I'll try to clear up the workload and give you a run through.

Right! I still have the problem of no heating.

All the padles and directional blowers work on the control panel along with all the bulbs.
I have had a feel of the inlet and outlet pipes for the heater matrix and they are both hot but i still get no heat inside the car.

I am proper stuck! My nearest Toyota dealer has been no help at all. They say they have never seen a Glanza before and that they have no information on them. They can order parts but thats it. Rubbish.

Im based in Essex. Is there anywhere near to me that has experience of working with Glanza's or Gt's????
If it is the control panel that has malfunctioned i will order a new one but i want to be sure before i do as they are like £340!

maybe make a trip to either tony (toytuning) or daves (starletturbo) workshop. Dont think theres much that they dont know about starlets and glanzas

Yeah thats a good plan. I'll drop Dave a message.
Could do with finding a reliable garage for when i start modding.
All the places round my way are full of cowboys.

Right! Got my car booked in at Dave's garage.
I'll let him have a look at it.
Much easier if i do that.
Im not mechanically minded. I just like to drive.
Let the pro's sort it.

Thanks everybody.

westfeild motors mate.there in rayleigh, near makro.

they normally do my car. 01268 783205, reasonably priced, and have wworked on a few starlets, and they specialise in japanese imports and toyotas and lexus's.

i personally dont think the problem is the heater matrix. there is a flap that controls tho hot and cold, and it is known to brake on some starlets. so it may well be this flap.

oh and if it is the control panel, i would recomend trying to find a second hand one, some one must have one.

Hmmm. Interesting. Sounds promising.
I'll be sure to let Dave or whoever his mechanic is know what you think it could be.
Im sure they will check out all possibilities anyway.
Thanks for letting me know dude.
Much appreciated.
