Wow!
Thanks Jay. Must have taken you a fair bit of time to sort all that out.
I have booked the car in to Dave Burwashes garage now anyway. He is going to have a look for me.
I'll take a print out of this thread with me to be safe.
Car goes in on Monday 14th.
Thanks for taking the time to dig this out for me.
I'll update the thread when i get the car back in working order.
Thanks again.

Hey mate, just confirm the actual fault - are the heaters not warm enough or is the fan not blowing hard enough?

Also as a sidenote, I think I know where Cal has stolen all his full stops from :D (joking ya!)

if its just blowing cold probably the thermostat sticking open,

if its the fan then it could be a number of things, it could be stuck on low power? maybe the fan itself is knackered etc

cold be as simple as a blocked heater matrix for the sake to 20mins disconnect the matrix piping on the bulk head and flush it through, i had problem with my heater being crap and never getting nice and hot, i flushed mine through(got out loads of silt) and changed the thermo and it now works fine

ok i do get a bit of heat when fan is on low when on high its quite cold also fan blows at all speeds but hardly any heat have tryed flushing matrix by disconnecting the pipes in bulk head also had a garage do it the system has not got a block .what i noticed between my car and my friends is when heater is on in his if you move lever for climate control the heater blows harder or softer dependant on temp mines does not do that blows at same speed regardless of where u put the lever hence i think something do do with the climate control and not the mtrix unit it self

if the thermostat was stuck open it would make it stay cool and not get hot!

so its reaching optimum temperature?

Easy to check this out. If your temp needle (for engine temp) is dicking about it's usually a sticking stat. They cost £15/20 to sort and are a common issue on the 4EFTE.

I wouldn't rule out the heater matrix. If the core is partially blocked you will still get flow in and out but it will not heat the air in the heater system. If you drop the glovebox out and the aircon evaporator housing out of the way you can put your hand onto the matrix core and feel how hot it is. Bear in mind you'll need the aircon gas rained to access it like this.

Just to confirm - do you hear the hot/cold slider moving the flaps in the heater box when you operate it?

yes the hot/cold slider is moving. i can hear the flap dink when moved from one side to the other i will try to get my hand in to matrix to feel how hot the matrix is. when i tryed taking the pipes off at bulk head i flushed the matrix both ways forward and reverse flow was fine but i did note after i put hoses back on that when car was running the top hose was quite hard with pressure bottom is soft enough to squeeze not as hard as top pipe when engine running .....

What condition is the coolant in?

Should be Aftershock Red, not Swampwater Brown (see pics).

Did you get your hand on the matrix yet? It should be as hot as the coolant, if it's just lukewarm there's a blockage in there. They can be full of corrosion if the coolant wasn't looked after previously. I know my grey GT was horrific.

Car is in the garage!
Its not the heater matrix or the control panel so far!

The saga continues......

not yet more likely going to be friday or sat but will post a report thanks for the help. what about your hoses at bulk head on your one are both got the same pressure when engine running as the lower one on mine is softer than the top is that normal do you know.

Right!
Sorted!
Took the car to Halstead Tyre and Service centre and got them to have a look.
Turns out it was what sx_turbo said it was.
The solenoid that is controled by the hot/cold slider is bust. Meaning that the flap was stuck on cold.
Max has moved that flap mannually as a temp fix untill the part comes in.
Gonna cost me £100 for a new solenoid + whatever extra for labour.
Much better that £340 for something that wasnt broken in the first place.
Gonna get him to do me a cam belt change at the same time.
Thanks for everyones input.
Hopefully this thread will save someone else alot of hassle.
Thanks again.
