I did the test:
TD04 l vs IHI VF28...

The Tdo4 is a very good dayly driving turbo with a 5e . My head is ported and polished and i am with external wastegate ,so the td04 L has a good response and a better low end torque than the ihivf28. The iHi spools later than the td04 L . 2800 for my TD04 & 3900 for the Ihi ,but yes the ihi is more kick ass and seems pulling like a train .But when you do not have to rev more you will prefer the td04
Finally i prefer the td04 , meanwhile there is a noticeable difference in top power .But mild punch is better for road with the td04.
i have maped the td04 & the ihi myself on the EMU . AFR was 11.4 for both at 1.2bar

Nice test.
How much more power do you think the ihi turbo is producing compared to the TD04.. Also which turbo produced the better mid range power?

I know the ihi 28 has a P18 turbine housing - .64 a/r, but what size is the turbine housing on the TD04H19T?... Thats a MHI turbo right..

i have not a dyno to compare i am talling about a decent dyno .But with my Blitz id SBC i can measure hp .Not really a good information to verify but there is a difference .This difference is near to 30hp on my blitz.I compare the TD04-L 13 subaru .vs IHi and if you want the TD04H 19T
The better mild punch on my 5e is for the td04-L13.The same spool is for the ihi and the td04h19 but at top end Ihi is better than the td04h19
The TD04 is "h" specification it spools slower , i will buy a TD04- "L" -19T and a lot of subaru-men own this kind of turbo it looks like a td04-L13but in fact it is 19 but with the "L" specification

for me in term on mild punch & drivability
TDO4l>Ihi vf28>td 04h19

for power
ihi vf28>td04h19>td04l

but if you do not read on the "baby dyno" you will think that the td04L gets big power due to the torque is more earlier than the others...and about sensation the instant response of the Td04 blows out the others...

very good write up ramses974...i think that paints a pretty good picture of things

maybe u can try another ihi turbo with a slightly smaller back housing to help spool

the td04 on a 5e is a great set up for daily driving....however, it tends to drop off in the top end
