ok i really need some help basically just rebuilt my engine standard spec etc after i cracked 3 pistons

new parts fitted are

head gasket
head bolts
new piston rings new oil oil and filter

now built it all back up started priming the engine but theres no oil getting around wat so ever?? now originaly i sealed the oil pump but took it back off and de sealed the oil pump so its just the o ring now. atm im turning it over with injectors un plugged. with no oil filter on and the oil return off the turbo off to see if oil is coming through but no joy what so ever ive been told it should just pickup but this isnt happening, please help someone this is really doin my head in as i needed the car back last weekend:mad:

engine ran fine before i took it apart

rep will be given

take the sump back off n have a closer look
are you sure you fitted the oil pick up
also make sure its not been blocked

only other thing i can think of is the oil pump itself
are you sure the star shaped metal piece in the oil pump was put back in place

I'm not too confident it'll help, but you could try back filling the system through the oil filter housing and then crank the engine to see if the oil pump pulls anything through.

so there's def NO oil atall going through?, you def put the seal on the pick up?, seen a few of the pick up crack causing it to leak make into the sump before the oil pump get's it!!!

what guage you using?

well it can't be much more than the pick or oil pump dude, check to make sure that it's def the right pump for your block, as in the rubber ring in the block or pump and not in both!!!

did you re-install the oil pressure relieve valve?

also did u check if its blocked open/or closed as that could very well be ur problem mate.

I take it you had install everything right. Pick up,relief valve ,sealed the pump corect etc.
If you had clean the pump maybe stungless to suck oil especially if it is complete dry inside.
What i do when engine is on the stand is that i turn it upside down fill the pick up with oil manualy and give the pump some turns by hand till it splits some oil from the oil filter housing. Other when istall them they fill the pump with greace of baseline.
Since the engine is on the car tho..your best bet is to take out the filter and fill with clean oil the pump from there as terry said.
Keep in mind that even with the ingectors unpluged if you still cranking the engine for quite some time you have a high chance to destroy the bearings.
So stop doing it and operate the pump itself with the timing belt off till you have oil coming off the oil filter. Dont look at the return of the turbo as it is a longer distance.
When some oil come of your oil filter housing then fill the oil filter manually with some oil put in on and start it right away when in parallel watching the oil light wich must go off in 5 sec or so.If more than 10 sec and light still on shut it down and search all over again.

The oil pump needs to be packed with vaseline or the like to get suction if its been fitted dry, if there was nothing put in it, try as Texx sugessted and backfill the pump from the filter using an oilcan or a funnel and hose.

The O ring on the pick up needs to be in good condition to get good lift also.

thanks guys theres some really good info there im going to go have another look shortly hopefully it should be sorted, and yes i did put it all back together correctly and the pump is the same 1 i took off i never took off the relief valve. and ian il let you know how i get on with regards to the pump thanks people

Hey man I had the exact same problem happen to me in regards to no oil pressure.
I didn’t do a full rebuild like you but I took off the head, put new gaskets in seals etc.
Here is what I tried to do in order to solve the problem I replaced the following:
- Oil pump
- Oil pressure relief valve
However none of these really solved the problem. Finally I started doing some research on the internet
and discovered that it could be a bearing clearance issue. Before the rebuild the oil pressure was fine had no issues at all.
I read up on the bearing clearance and thought that couldn’t really be it (for my engine) because I never took off the
Connecting rods. You might want to look into that if someone here hasn’t already suggested it.

FINALLY IN THE END….

After many months and lots of reading I came across and article on the net that talked about oil pressure and how
It affects rebuilt engines. Here is what I did to get oil pressure.

((( USE THICK OIL FOR THIS TEST 20W-50

1. U know the hose that comes from the stock by-pass valve and connects to the valvecover.
2. Make sure u have oil in your oil filter
3. Screw the oil filter on but do not tighten it leave about a 0.250” gap between the rubber gasket on the oil filter and the oil filter housing
4. Well disconnect the hose from the by-pass valve(ONLY) and blow in it using your mouth or a low air pressure hose.
5. This will pressurize the oil and make it come out your oil filter housing.
6. Once you see the oil dripping from the filter tighten the filter back up and crank the car once or twice (only, do not start it)
7. Then you should have oil pressure once you start it.

I hope this works for you like it did for me. Keep in mind its only a temporary fix.
Right now my oil pressure is still low. Im Using Mobil1 5w-30 full syn.
Oil Pressure at Idle(900 rpm) @ 90 degrees = 7 psi. Oil Pressure at 5500 rpm @ 90 degrees = 40 psi.

Some of the guys on the forum have told me this is very low. At idle it should be 20-25 and at 5500 rpm it should be 60 psi.

Good luck

That oil is very thin, a mineral oil would raise the pressure and give better protection than the fully syn at low pressure imo.

thanks guys for all your great help all sorted lol it was really simple just backfed oil through the oil filter housing and ..... pumped straight through lol cant belive ive took most of it apart just because of this small isue, lesson learned! know now for future rebuilds

thanks very much rep added:cool:
