max speed

im using the standard lsd box, got a quaiffe diff on the way so iv just got to find the gearbox, driveshafts and starter to go with it along with some 8j rims fo traction

if you have enough power you will beable to hit the limiter in 5th 168 was just short of it and you could raise the limter for a higher speed

that is a ridiculous gear ratio for a standar 1.3 box.........

although when i had the 4efte in i remeber hitting 135MPH in 4th gear on the clock that is......

The HRF car can pull 175mph on the standard gearing, so I wouldn't worry too much with a mere 200bhp

Thats impressive, is there a formula to work out what kinda power pruduces what speed?

obviasly theres a few things that diffrent from car to car but the theory side of it?

im thinking more like 260bhp woudl that see over 150mph.
Im not perticularly botherd about top end but its nice to know

madness our gt doesnt go past 145mph due to gearbox! how come others are different?

Around 12 seconds is achievable on the standard engine (Maybe not internals), a GTti can do it, so a 4EFTE will. As people have mentioned there is a balance between power and traction. An interesting comment from 3SGTE was "only the nova had a chance" - Power to weight (It had the least power).

I know of 1 GTti equipped with a Motec, 110 octane fuel and 28psi of boost that ran a 12.3 seconds 1/4 mile. 0-100 in 9.1. Thats with a Group A Gearbox and going through all 5 gears! Topped out at 109mph.

Me it's around 140mph to 145mph, i'm running with TD04 also but the maximum i can boost is 1bar, but the figures above was done on 0.6 bar. But Can someone tell me if I can get more speed if it was at 1 bar.

so if i did a top speed run at brunters in my gt with 14s....the top end would be quicker?what if i had 16s?.....say i got 140 with the 14s....would my top speed be likely to get slower to say 135?

Depends on tyre sidewalls.

But anyway, this would be massively complicated to work out, and would probably be easier to just try it.

For the simple reason you would need to plot out where you car makes power. i.e. the rev range you would be using on each tyre.
The difference in weight. etc etc.

The biggest bearing on top speed would be pressures IMO. I dare say it would be noticeable more than a couple of mph wind.

What rpm are you at? The HRF car did 175mph at 7500rpm. Horsepower, then gearing determines your top speed. So if you've run out of power at 6000rpm you've reached the terminal speed of your horsepower, not your gearing, and the opposite is true.
