I used to have a xsara vtr, was pretty quick and cheap to insure, roomy aswell, the vts is a bit of a let down for a 2ltr

Bear in mind with the GTI6 that they are prone to premature cambelt wear and the whole engine has to be dropped out for replacement. As for the Xsara VTS they share the same 2.0 167bhp engine as the 6 but with a 5 speed box. OK if you can put up with how it looks! I'd go for a 306 XSI. They should be well within budget. They have a 2.0 8v with 136bhp I think (same as 206 GTI).

the engine has to come out to change the cambelt? sure it dont.

i'd say the 106 is a good bet, there are plenty of cars out there, but do remember the 106 gti is group 13 i think, and a gt is about the same. id prob buy that gt mentioned above.

RIght. Ignore what I said previously.

I now just need a run around. Something cheap to run, buy and insure. That 1.1 106 would be ideal, but its in Bradford. Any other suggestions for small cars chaps? Will need one asap.

Polo 16v 100bhp, around an r plate, had one and it was nippy and nice to drive. And looks well sitting on it's ass. Just make sure there is no whine off the gearbox as it's a common prob

a couple idea's, the car i came from when i had my glanza (due to having no job) was........ a volvo 340, comfy, good mpg, mod con's and can be fun if wanted. (rwd)

also think along the lines of practical, economic cheap ins cheap buying, last forever:

Volvo 440 engines up to 2.0 i think
Volvo s40 range of engines 1.6 to 2.0

of cheap fun and insurance

Volvo 850t5 (i had one of these! lots of fun!)

i know my options are volvo but i think they are great cars when needs are a must at times of cheap, reliable, cheap ins cars.

or......... bmw e36 1.8, good reliable, cheap, good mpg
