Overheating

I was giving the car a good run last week Thursday and what i realised is that my car temp started to rise, but the only this is that it does it only when i give the car a good trashing it doesn't do it under regular driving conditions. The engine was given a full rebuild recently when i did my upgrade. Can anyone give me any ideas that might be able to help me solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Check your radiator hoses. This may sound weird but I had a similar situation where the temp only rose on spirited drives and dropped when I slowed down. Turned out that my hoses were old, weak and were collapsing when the water pump really got going. I actually watched the hose squeeze itself in under high revs and go back to normal when the revs dropped. The resulting restriction was causing the temp to rise at high revs.

The original thermostat is still in the car. Never really changed it. The hose, the radiator fan and the radiator seems fine. I let the car warm up and then rev it out a bit and there was o constriction on the hoses. The only other thing that it seems to be pointing to is the thermostat. Should i put back in a stock thermostat or should i try to find and upgraded one?

Did u replace the radiator and thermostat? Cause i have a dual core radiator and it works perfectly ok or should i just replace the thermo with a OEM one or an upgraded one?

i get this problem, i have fitted a new sard thermostat when i done my rebuild so it cant be that.

i have also put a brand new rad in and there is nothing wrong with that either.

i will be getting a new racing rad on the 1st december, so we will see what happens then.

the other thing it could be with mine is that i am running 1bar on stock mani so i cant imagine thats helping things much.

i replaced both but as the thermo is not expensive do that first if that doest sort the problem i would get your rad checked.....

im having the same problem, going to replace rad(as it is full of rust)and rap cap, also think i might change hoses as suggested by newguye, and going to get toyota for live coolent,my thermo is fine, ive been having this problem since i bought the car ten months ago,but i reckon 100% it is the rad and cap,but coolent systems needs a full overhaul

yes thats because your rad is too small to cool the car. civic rads are a bad idea

why a lot of people have announced that the civica rad aluminium was a great upgrade for the 4efte engine???
the oem rad is better if i understand

Had a similar problem a year or so ago. I was certain it wasnt but it turned out to be a blocked radiator. Not saying thats what your problem is bud, if i remember rightly theres quite a bit of gumpf about this subject on the old forum, and all the different problems mentioned above have very similar symptoms! I say start at the cheap end and work your way up as someone said above.

Might be worth mentioning that you can get youre rad pressure tested for about a score. Worth doing for piece of mind. If it turns out it is that, a recore should cost you around £90-£100. Wouldnt personally go second hand, but thats just my opinion! Hope this helps.
