Thanks for the info mate, but why would there be a problem using the 5.1 fluid? I don't get why it would cause a leak? Cheers.

No1 uses DOT3 these days its old hat.

5.1 will be fine, just make sure you flush the whole system with it as you dont want it mied with the old

I've done some research and according to this web site

http://stason.org/TULARC/vehicles/m...-DOT-3-4-or-5-brake-fluid-when-replacing.html

According to the website, Dot 5.1 is compatible with DOT 3, however DOT 5 is not. It can cause a leak because it's bad for some seals!!!

I would personally confirm it with the Toyota Dealer (they should now better). They would never risk your life for the profit. I would buy the fluid from them rather than anyone else no matter how much is the price difference! (won't be much anyway). They would never sell bad stuff, unlike many websites or Ebay!

As weakboy2 stated: just make sure you flush the whole system with it as you dont want it mixed with the old.

Let me know if you're happy with the Yellow stuff, have a look at the Camskill.com as well, they have a good choice of brake pads! (good price as well).

dot5 is silicone fluid that is why it cant be used for road use, dot5 doesnt mix with water so pushes water closest to the caliper,

where as all the other dot's do ix with water.

brake fluid has to mix with a small ammount of water cos of the constant heat cycles it goes through and atmospheric conditions.

also about the yellow stuff rear pads, there seems to be some issue here between traders and i would just like to clear things up.

i have been in contact with ebc myself, because my work place are EBC official dealers.

i received an email back from them stating this:

"We have made these before as a special set in the lab by burning old material off old backplates and putting our yellowstuff material on

This have now been deemed as unsafe because of fumes by health and safety so we can no longer offer this service sorry

Thanks

Andrew Bartosiak"

so they have made special sets in the past, but will no longer be providing special sets.

when speaking to them on the phone they said one of the reasons they cannot make these is because they cannot get the back plates, and they have to make them in minimum batches of 120 sets, and they cannot warrant this ammount of cost to make the back plates and hold stock as if they do them in 1 compound they will have to do them in all compounds, and they have about 6 compounds, so it will not be a viable option for them.

i hope this clears up what the 2 traders have been saying :)

We are just trying to offer an alternative for people. With back plates made we have can have any compound bonded on. Although it won't be cheap as they are made in a lab environment at least people will have a choice other than the JDM brands. There are loads of JDM aftermarket pads so obviously people use them

yeah its a good option dave,

in an ideal world the front and rear pads should be matched, so a yellow stuff rear option is a good option.

I bet you wouldn't notice any difference in braking with yellow, red, pink pads on the rear comparable to the Toyota Standard Brake pads!

The only difference you might notice is the amount of dust on the alloys -)
