Think im broken my TRD diff

Well.........

The last few days my car hasnt felt the same, a bit tacky.. The diff or at least the gearbox area has been really noisey and there are vibrations etc...

So i put the car on axels as the noises and poor driving quality are only in gear and under acceleration how ever mild it is, just a touch of the throttle.

So once up in the air in gear wheels turning and there is a horrible clunking noise with a lot of engine movement!

NOTE: when the car is not in gear there is normal engine movement(very little) and and the car sounds fine.. This is only in gear, any gear.

Im very confident its my diff.. But would like some info from some experts

Think you might be right mate!! Guessing its every gear? Have you drained the oil to check for bits of metal?
 
This happens to my gt on the rollers the last time I had shredded 4rth had the exact same noise
Maybe uv bent a gear or gear shaft due to ur low power output lol :drive:

Yup every gear mate.. I havent drained the oil but im going to take the box off and remove the diff at some point very soon and see what i cn find.. I'll drain the oil first but im sure i know what im gona find... Still drives ok but it pulls over the road really funny, feels really dangerous now, 4th gear doesnt go straight at all! hovers over the road lol

Oh really? But would this not make getting into gear very difficult? I can get into all my gears no problem.. lol at the low power output!


Was this the noise of your broken diff then dude?

there was no lsd diff on that box man, its just the noise of it fucked, it just came in there after i changed the clutch, it does sound like yours.

what exactly was fucked?

ive nearly taken the box off now just have to pull shafts out and it should be pretty much off, then i'll open the box up and see what the hell is going on lol.. If it is the diff i hope i can get it repaired.

It could be the final drive mate, could have shredded the pinion. so fingers crossed it isn't the diff itself.

Yeah i mean the diff still locks and feels fine its just teh gearbox area clunking sounds awfula and feels like shit.. Plus after removing bits for the box to come out i realized one of my side mounts steel bracket was broken in half and causing the engine to lean slightly! So need to get that welded up but it might just brake again! Bloody car, cant expect things to go too smoothly now can i lol

This is true haha! Ideally that is what this fucking car needs, think its slightly over powered now for a street car that gets used alot.

am not sure man, something collapsed after the new clutch was fitted, i wish i could tell u exactly what went in the box but opening gearboxs is beyond my knowledge.

No worries bro, im nearly done now, gearbox is jammed between shaft and chassis lol, so close then i'll open the box up and see whats what...

Nice one G! Well ive manage to get the gearbox out and split it to reveal all the gears + the diff and all seems sweet apart from this odd square bit of metal that jammed between the diff and the main gear the diff goes to! Fuck knows where that came from, i just pulled it out! But i cant take the diff out as its stuck to the driveshaft! Does anyone know how the driveshafts are in place? It has no bolts or clips, i assume it just needs a proper wallap with a hammer a few times?

The driveshaft will have a nut on the hub end, and it will knock out with the bottom ball joint out. The gearbox end will pry out if you get a crowbar/prybar on it mate.

Have a good look around the box lad, find out where that chunk of metal came from! Don't wanna have to pull it back off again lol.

Oh i have the box out and split but still with the driveshaft on lol.. So just a good bit of man power, jeez the thing is stuck on ive already crowbard it to death! I'l give it another go tomorrow.

The thing is if i take all the gears out to have a much better look im worried im not gona be able to put them all back in! Maybe at this point i should take it to a gearbox specialist to have a look?

Do the right thing pal...........open the fuker up, fuck it completely then get a gearbox specialist to quote ya mate! ha ha ha!

for sure m8 to save some $ get a gearbox spec to have a wonder inside! all that brass wasted if u toss up now!

hahaha! This is true, at least i saved myself £150 labour taking box out.. Now its a job for the pros.. Im sure that knocking noise was just that bit of metal jammed between the diff and gear.. But i kinda need to know where that came from lol! So yeah, i'll keep updated to what the problem is.
