Very strong burnt oil smell and smoke in cabin

have you cleaned out the catch can yet and took it for a blast ? possibly one of your oil seals? would say there may be droplets of oil but if they are being burned off and that could be the smoke then you wont see them ? you might not see the leaks as it could only be hapning under load ? im by no means a mechanic just some food for thought, and i hope it helps mate ill keep an eye on the thread.

I forgot to mention...if your inner cv gator splits you can get grease on to your exhaust pipe and that gives off a rather nasty oily smell.

I'll have a good look under the car soon and give it a good check over for leaks or spilt oil that i may not be able to see from looking down into the bay. As for the catch can, it was new two months ago, and cant see any liquid on the indicator on the side of the tank. Cant see how mine would be the only one smelling like this when so many people run the same catch can/breather setup... thats why im thinking it must be something else. My exhaust seems to have got louder over time as well,,, so maybe there is a leak somewhere along the line. Best way to test?

u checked for oil leaks striaght onto the exhaust?

if ur using oil then there is clearly a leak somewhere, or its burning it, will just have to keep looking at it.

It must be burning it for some reason, defo no patches on the ground or leaks from what i can see. Why would it only smell strong stright after boosting though if there was oil on the exhaust? surely that would be smelling all the time

I had smoke and burnt oil come through to cabin when my turbo decided to die on me, maybe check intercooler pipework for oil? I have also heard of people getting same thing when piston rings have gone. Try taking the breather hose on the left of the rockercover off and start you car to see if its smokes alot

^^ cheers mate. I'll have a look at the intercooler piping and ill also do what you said about the breather pipe on the rocker (even though ive got the race spec lines, ill unscrew the one on the left). Should i do this when the engines warmed up or dosent it matter?

You could always unplug it from the catch can side if that is easier? When my rings went it was smoking from cold but i had 2 pistons and rings gone so might be worth warming it up a bit. Get someone to rev the car when its warm and look at the pipe, if there is alot of smoke i would opt for a compression test to check for a drop in compression but that is worst case scenario

as the revs rise oil pressure goes up, and so does crank case pressure.
on my mondeo i was losing oil for some reason and i couldnt pin point it, it only happened driving hard, turns out as the revs got higher the oil was seeping out from the oil filter seal, changed the filter and all was good.

Cheers Ricky..I think ill get it on axle stands and have a proper look around underneath with a good light and see what i can see... took it out last night and it only chucked up a proper oil smell once and that was when i boosted in 4th gear to around 80+mph and then into 5th..
