The Spulling and prity gud English tread

Looks like you'd be better describing this to a brick wall.

Pretty simple, type clearly and in full words to make it easier for other members to understand you or assist you, otherwise its just bloody disrespectful.

I am anything but narrow minded thank you very much. If you require technical assistance and cannot be bothered to take the time to phrase your question in a way that is easily read then if I choose to put the same amount of time in to answering it as you did asking it (no time) that is my business.

You may think it is acceptable to use txt spk or leave letters out of words because you are too lazy after a hard days work to press an extra button on a keyboard, personally I dont care, but I have the option not to respond and I choose to exercise it.

If we followed your logic we would write the articles in the tutorials section in half legible gibberish that would require an enigma machine to decipher thus making the information contained within borderline useless.

In this life you get out what you put in. Put in half written rubbish and dont expect to get back detailed overly helpful responses. This is evident when you read some of the more interesting technical threads on the site. They usually spawn from a long detailed initial post which someone has taken some time and effort to write. This then tends to draw responses with effort invested in them.

All of the above said I wont stoop to calling you narrow minded for thinking there is nothing wrong with txt spk, use it if you wish I will just skip past your posts but I am sure you will not lose any sleep over that.

i will not lose sleep over it at all i can asure you, i also have not and do not use any text speak, i just think of this post to be ridiculous, and found it stupid tbh, thats the only reason i voiced an opion, a bunch of grown men moaning over some words not spelt correctly. its so pethetic its quite funny and instead of being peived by the levels of intelligence hear, im amused the first line of my first post, exactly what i expected a big click hear followed by some absolute brown noser's. best of luck with the site and spreading a ridiclous mesage... you cant abbreviate words... but it ok to write glwts, tbh, imo.... some really do need paid educations!

doubt mr.one two will use the forum from now on

he has his opinion, can you not just leave him alone

Opinion is there to be expressed, and not everyone will agree with other people's opinions. It's got nothing to do with 'leaving him alone', he's expressing his views, we ours.

Nah, lets all gang up on him! Its the done thing around here!

Not the wisest of things to add to this thread... We don't 'gang up' on people, we just sometimes disagree uniformally on certain subject matters...

haha

not trying to gang up on the man at all.

you give your opinion and you get others back, it happens everywhere.

the fact the lad isnt great at spelling does not annoy me in the slightest, i dont have to try and read his threads and i wont especially if im tired, hard to read/bad english is impossible late at night lol

what does annoy me slightly is that he comes on to a thread about peoples pet hates of bad spelling and grammar to support it! then complains when it is pointed out that it really benefits him more than anyone else to type in a comprehendible way.

I don't have any aid of spell check on my browser but at all times I try my best to use ''proper'' English.

Good thread, let's hope people appreciate it rather than finding it offensive for whatever preposterous reason.

if anyone took the time to actually read my posts you all would realise im not on to look for an argument, i also/ have not disagreed once about writting propper or using readable english, but infact.... and hear goes.... THAT A FELLOW MEMBER MAY NOT RECIVE HELP DUE STRICKLY TO HIS WRIITING ABILITY, also you can slag or mock someone for having spelling issues i have already recived some on this thread for not "spelling correctly" but people have learning difficulties and it is very bad IMO that members would choose to slag someone over that... i heard some great things about this site but SOME people hear would really need to see the real side of life. if everyones biggest problum in life is a few wee spellings well, ill leave it at that. thanks aidan G.

I don't understand some text speak for example, "Mine" and "Myn" only one letter shorter so you might as well have typed it in full.

Text speak used to be used back in the day of nokia 3210's and text messages costing 35p each and you wanted to cram as much information as possible in one text. But now everyone has unlimited texts and texts are so much cheaper that there is no need to.

It doesnt bother me much apart from how retarded it looks.

And abbreviations are fine because who wants to type out FMIC (front mounted intercooler) every time haha

im not looking for an arguement either.

you may or may not have learning disablities, i dont know but i assume your a bright lad if not well thats no odds to me(ie i dont care).

there is alot more members on "ere" who understand/use txt spk than da few whinging gits in ere(us lot :) ) they will have no problem answering your questions because they know what you mean.

if you want to open your channel of possible help alittle wider to include the guys on here in there late 20's 30's 40's 50's and 60's and us lot of whingers then real words will be required.

again i say, if you want help, help yourself.

I'm reading this discussion from a different view.
As a foreigner it's indeed sometimes hard to read some posts.

I notice it is more common in the "off topic topics" than in technical discussions.

my solution, on the english grammar, came in firefox as dictionaries, just selected the UK ans USA english ones, just to be sure.

Not read all this thread but I tell you what annoys me.

Some of the Irish lads on here who say den, dat, dan etc instead of then, that, than.

That really is annoying lol

I dont like text speak tbh but I "gotta" habit for words like that. See what I did there lol :p

But at least its understandable :p

This is a great topic and one in which in my opinion needed to be raised.
I hope everybody reads this and takes something positive from it, i.e. if you are looking to leave a comment or ask an opinion etc, do what the majority want and use correct spelling and grammar or at least try to.

Benefits us all in the long run.

Mr One Two you seem very
familiar I cant check because I'm
on my phone maybe someone
could do a search for a thread
called 'one for the irish lads' I think
it was called there was someone
posting in that thread that reminds
me of you I cant remember the
user name though. It will be
obvious when people read the
thread who Im on about. Might not
be you though. :)

Edit: thread was 'a question for the
irish lads'

talking in person to one another about an engine is irrelevant, as i dont feel it is posible to actually speak in that english and after all if it was read aloud it would be understood. and just for the record drumz there is uncountable ways of comunication, pictures, hands, sight, sound, so i feel that because your point is directed at me, i belive it to be totally away from my original point, which was not about the grammer or spelling side but the descrimination side.!

Durmz will love that ha:slap:
