4efe and 4efe JDM diffrences

My old gt block had 140,000 miles before it died at the hands of 29psi in a deliberate bid to kill it before the forged lump went in. The current steed has 144k and strong apart from its desire for valve stem oil seals, and ive just bought a tough as old boots 115k 4efte with really strong compression, cheers Ted!

i see the distributor is the same as the paseo.

and the manifold is indeed different. also european starlets have the catalyst in the middle of the car.

i know the jdm 4e inlet is like the turbo one lol....i dont know how the corolla one makes it better, it may to do with that its sort of ramming the air in more, as apposed to sucking it in.....someone i know put the fte inlet on a non-turbo and nothing else and it make it worse than standard, but the corollla one however didnt...strange lol

How is the Corolla inlet ramming the air in?

All n/a engines mate suck air in, a turbo blows air in, a "ram air" air filter system rams air into the filter, not into the inlet tract.

I would say the reason the fte mani did not work on the n/a is because he was incorrectly fuelled due to more air getting in without fuelling adjustments, and also do the UK n/a`s not use a different throttle position sensor? The Glanza one is a resistance type, and as far as I know the UK one is also. That would mean the fte one would not be telling the ecu the correct info about the throttle position. That would make a hugh difference.

Nothing strange about that, but really good to hear from someone who has been experimenting. You might need to go back over a few things again but.

Was moving this to a clean corner and noticed the PAS bracket is different too:

The turbo engine has a differnet pas bracket and different pump to allow more space for the filter relocation block and turbo to go in.

I managed to learn something from those conversions!!!!

Did the star pass its mot Jay?

Noticed the filter issue when I was ahhhh bolting a turbo up to it the other week...umm I've said too much already :D

Have only just put the little redstar back together yesterday - started up and ran no bother so just some bonnet pins to source then we're ready..

can anyone explain exatly whats diffrent for them to have 100bhp where as the UK ones only have 75.

ive already got the pink injectors and a inlet manifold from the JDM model but i can for the life of me find any info on the ECU's to see if they are diffrent.

but some techincal infomation might be usful for the future of the forum:p

Which JDM 4EFE are we talking Dan?

EP91 JDM 4EFE (for example Glanza S, Reflec, Carat) was 85ps.
EP80 JDM 4EFE (for example GI, X Limited, Canvas Top) was 100ps.

we turned our track car to jdm 4efe spec using injectors, inlet mani and ecu. it definitely went a lot better and raised the rev limit. its possible some of the extra power is liberated simply through revving higher

the 100ps one mate:p

Ted, did you try the stock ECU with the injectors and inlet manifold?

did the ECU's have a diffrent code on them ? ive only found one 4efe ecu

good read guys.

here my basic input,
ive got a uk 4efe in my glanza replica and ive put a 4efte inlet manifold on, this changed the way the car drove, it seem to slug more lower down and pull better higher up the rpms very strange but overall seemed to be a tiny bit faster due to the top end pull. now ive got the pink injecors too and i think im going to put them in and see if it make any diffrence.
I dont have the JDM ecu but is there any hard given proof there diffrent or is it just myth?

We fitted the 100ps EP85 ECU to AlanD's Kitten-spec EP91. (Pic shows 100ps in hand, 75ps ecu installed)

The car would fire up but wouldn't hold idle. I figure the lack of an idle stabilisation valve (on the end of the intake) would be causing that.

Never got any further down the road of making it work but signs were promising.

good info,

do you think im likly to gain anything from fitting the pink injectors to complement the inlat manifold with the stock ecu- other than maybe crappy fuel economy.
