4efe and 4efe JDM diffrences

the 100ps one mate:p

Ted, did you try the stock ECU with the injectors and inlet manifold?

did the ECU's have a diffrent code on them ? ive only found one 4efe ecu

we drove the car only with original ecu when we got it first(slow as f**k, linear power delivery). then put on the jdm stuff. it seemed a bit hesitant low down but pulled better top end and revved 500rpm higher i think.

Ted, was it just the 3 things you changed then? inlet+injectors+ecu

my n.a dosnt have a RPM guage yet.

ive fitted the pink injecotrs now and been for a drive there is some diffrence but cant exlpain what, might just be the cooler air at night lol i dont often accellerate up the rpm in my n/a but maybe its just pyscological lol.

will see what time i run down the 1.4mile tomorrow. if i have the time i would take the stock inlet manifold and injectors and swap them whilst im there to compair but really cant the botherd to do it as itll probly be too cold:p

We fitted the 100ps EP85 ECU to AlanD's Kitten-spec EP91. (Pic shows 100ps in hand, 75ps ecu installed)

The car would fire up but wouldn't hold idle. I figure the lack of an idle stabilisation valve (on the end of the intake) would be causing that.

Never got any further down the road of making it work but signs were promising.

i had the exact same problem when i had a 5e in the starlet before turbo, iv tried to fit the 5e ecu and it did the same as you've described, fired up then died

turned out to be the immobilser cutting out cos the transponder code in the key didn't match the ECU. this problem was removed when i fitted the gt loom though :)

Joz over on uksc had the same problem when he did his conversion

fuel??

biggest difference between the jdm and eu cars is...

the quality of fuel available.
:teach:
jdm standard: 100RON
UK standard : 95RON

counts for a few hp difference when mapped on better fuel so, yes, biggest difference is the ecu.

i've been collecting info on a lot of toyota engines for a few years now, never mind the urban myths and what people speculate the differences are. i'm glad to see people are posting photos to try and identify the differences in the engines.

i think your best poa would be to just remap any 4efe with aftermarket headers and exhaust because the 4efe's dont differ internally (as my man on tercel reference found) EXCEPT for a thinner head gasket (to raise compression). definitely cheapest option.

else, just stop masturbation and go get a 4efte nd be done! :slap:

About the 5E ECU: My brother bought one which was a direct plug and play in his UK Starlet. Not sure about the improvements it made, but he said it 'might' have made it a little more responsive in lower revs. Hit the limiter a bit earlier though! (5800 rpm as opposed to 6200)

i have a question?
what is the oem rev limit in both the Uk 4efe and jdm 4efe

as i have a feeling that if the rev limits differ,,,that could mean they have different valve springs also....hence one could possibly rev higher than the other without valve float issues........but that all depends on the answer to the above question...lol

dont quote me but i think uk limits at 6250 and jdm 6750

There is a difference. The 100ps unit delivers peak power at 6,600rpm so it'll probably be 7000rpm +

Ted could go look at his rev counter to check. But it's cold out there and we don't want him getting the flu..:haha:

dunno, its the same as the corolla engine i think, which revs to 7200k so cant see it being a prob, onlt one way to find out.

I've been using this thread for info but all the pictures have now disappeared.. No point in starting a new thread and yes I know the last post was 2008.
