Same as Rick our head was skimmed and pressure tested too. We have a sard 1.3bar rad cap on there.

Dont know if should take the rad off now and drive down to this rad place and get it checked over or just buy one anyway! I guess testing it saves money if it isnt the rad but im praying that it is.

i would get it tested first to be honest.

i bought some of that headgasket dye to put into my system, if that changes colour i know its not my rad, if it doesnt, then i shall buy a new rad.

ok i get on the phone to dave for a new rad then.

worth a try i wanted one any way.

does any one knoe the thickness of the tanks on the standard rad, as i cant have anything thicker than this

if you are worried about the fan hitting things as the new rad is deeper, get hold of a aircon rad and put that on it does a better job and is thinner

Reading Kelly's post on page one about it chucking water into the expansion tank and the level dropping, but not overheating, I'd say that was to be expected. I think I'm right in saying that Kelly is running a larger rad than stock (Civic?) and as it holds more water, more will be expelled when it gets hot. The stock expansion tank obviously isn't big enough to hold all of it.

The other thing to bear in mind if you've still got a stock rad is that most of us aren't running anywhere near a stock car, so everything is pushed harder and probably gets hotter.

I'd be tempted to fit a larger expansion bottle.

I've never had this problem while using a dual core Civic rad. Using one right now, coolant level is full to the top of the rad and I never get overflowed coolant, never have.

Which car are we talking about Kelly, the K24 GT?

you mean an air con rad fan?

the fan isnt a problem, the problem i have is that i have rotated my turbo and made custom bracket for the actuator, and a custom turbo to intercooler pipe. and there isnt enough room for a glanza rad, but is enough room for a 2 core rad, as long as it's not a glanza one

For what it's worth, I've seen a lot of mk1's with blocked radiators. Enough to consider the radiator a weakspot.

i had the exact same problem ,taught it was the head ,bought everything to replace ,and i then replaced the rad with a glanza duel core rad ,and never had a problem since ,so could be worth trying it mate

out of wonder, when i replaced the water pump, it had an extra blade on the new one i put in, compared to the standard one that came off it.

would this make a difference?

Gee yeh sorry talking about bens k24 GT.

Right RAD Update - took it to the rad place, they phoned back later today and they said inside the rad there is a slight restriction and its deffo seen better days, the copper inside has started to rot etc etc but he doesnt think anything enough to cause problems for normal driving. But like said earlier only get the problem when flat our through the gears and boosting hard. So might as well get it recored by the guy and see if it makes a difference, the rad man himself is unsure if it will or not but its worth a shot, and the rad is the oldest part of the cooling system.

also forgot to mention that the car runs a sard header tank thing and therefore has more coolant in the system than some setups. Bit random but thought it was worth mentioning.

prob not rotting, but probably filling with gunk

Yeh i think that was more like it. Like i said dont quote me! But the guy seemed ok, he didnt wanna tell us its guna cure our problem coz he doesnt know himself. Like i said there was abit of a restriction and plenty fins bent etc etc guess we'll see.
