not so worried about the gaps...can be riveted different at times by manufacturer........the pressure plate looks like oem replacement

couple pple said they have the one pictured when they order

i just contacted exedy usa and they confirmed that stage one and 2 uses the same pressure plate..only the disc changed

Are they actually advertising this as an Exedy item? I can't see any evidence of this?

Exedy and other companies don't always make the changes obvious in their 30% or 50% (Or whatever) clutches.

In some cases a 30% clutch may be the same pressure plate with different clutch disc material, in others it may be the same clutch material with revised clamping force. The pressure plate might look exactly the same but the spring strength may have changed.

Both the clutches in my car have come from a company called Xtreme Clutches in Australia, they take the hard work from Exedy and improve on it. They do both light and heavy duty Toyota Starlet versions also.

your wrong the exedy one has the full circle on it.

we are talking about the starlet clutch.

the pics on exedy site are for reference only

the fingers on the clutch cover/pressure plate are 3mm thick steel, which is fecking stiff

Was just an observation I made wasn't written in stone I'll keep quiet then :haha:

no problem lol

i would take pics of my one that i have sitting next to me, but my phone cable is at home to upload the pics with.

these autobahn ones look genuine, and the only other thing left to check for is whether both parts have made in japan stamped on them, and they should also have exedy stamped on them aswell.

or request a pic of the box.

I've also bought an Exedy Stage 2 off ebay guys, from an ebay usa seller last month. Its for my 5EFHE build.

It wasnt in stock so it took five days for backorder before it was sent.

The packaging is so convincing if its fake.

I've put up these photos so you can see exactly what we are dealing with.

Any feedback etc is much appreciated.

See for yourself, it looks genuine to me, altho there is a 50/50 chance it may be fake or be a mismatch of genuine and korean/china parts. And yes the clutch plate matches the image of the fake one.

I thought maybe thats just how the 5efe ones are made and look.

Im waiting to hear back from Exedy usa direct after they analyse my photos.

Why would they go to such lengths to make a copy... it astounds me.

I'll let everyone know once I get a reply from Exedy, really want to get to the bottom of this and most important know I have a usable clutch.

Thanks for clearing that up Ricky.

I was speaking to Toby and we reckon it may be fake judging from the image of the clutch plate. The clutch plate anyway, the clutch cover looks spot on, but the designs are going to be the same anyway, its the actual components (springs etc) which are the telltale sign, also heat treatment is a common thing that exedy do to some parts of their clutches.

Im hearing back from exedy usa soon so I'll be able to confirm after they analyse my pics.

I wanted to at least show everyone the markings etc that come on genuine exedy stage 2's (thats if mine is 100%) as well as the packaging.

Here is an exedy imitation pdf

Also read this cached thread on scooby net (might need firefox) - http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:rKFIlyy0VxQJ:bbs.scoobynet.com/group-buys-356/711821-exedy-race-clutch-flywheel-ebay-link.html+fake+exedy+clutches&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=9&gl=uk&client=firefox-a

Ive been in contact with that seller briefly, I asked him about the partnumber for the 5efe clutch and he said mine was wrong (which it wasnt).

yours is genuine by the looks of those pics.

the clutch you get will always be difference to reference photo's on there site, because they are just that reference.

yours might be fake but i dont think it is, let us know what exedy say.

I will mate.

It would be good to see what your Exedy looks like too for further reference.

My clutch plate (paddle) doesnt have any Exedy markings, just the ones I posted but the box/packaging was the big staple sealed type (quite genuine/pro looking)

Joz

Thats fine mate.

I think Sam will be able to relate to this as he is based in the US.

I just took a photo of the Daikin stamp in the clutch plate.
