Fake Exedy Clutches...beware

joz the box that ur pressure plate came in is what i usually receive when i buy stock oem replacement clutch kits here

wasnt ur suppose to come in a red box like the clutch disc came in?

sam

Hi Sam

Everything came in that big box, with the paddle clutch plate inside the pink box. The big box says 'Exedy Racing Clutch' so altho the colours (grey/blue) may be the same as the oem boxes you get, your boxes surely wouldnt say Racing Clutch? What Im trying to say is the packaging looks appropriate to me, it looks like it was meant to house all the items within it and it may be a us exedy packaging trend for the stage 1 and 2's compared to the UK, also the main box has an appropriate space to stick the main part number to.

I reckon its further down the Exedy Line (The Hyper Single etc) where you start getting the full on big pink box i.e more serious packaging.

Here is the photo from that ebay uk seller but if you read the scoobynet thread I posted it mentions this seller so beware.

Here is the link again http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:rKFIlyy0VxQJ:bbs.scoobynet.com/group-buys-356/711821-exedy-race-clutch-flywheel-ebay-link.html+fake+exedy+clutches&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=9&gl=uk&client=firefox-a

Hope this makes sense :)

Exedy got back to my contact and what they said was this:

From all of the pictures that does appear to be a genuine Exedy product. The part number 16954B is the correct part number for the Paseo. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

dont buy exedy from ebay...no ebay in that fact..buy from reputable stores or traders

anyone knows what power these stage 2 are rated to?

sam

This specific stage 2 (mine) for the 5EFE Paseo has:

Torque Capacity (ft/lbs) 162
Clamp Load (lbs) 1210
Disc O.D. (mm) 200
Spline Teeth/Major Dia. (mm) 21T / 24.1
Clutch Disc Material Cerametallic
Number of Disc Single

The stage 1 for the Paseo is:

Torque Capacity (ft/lbs) 143
Clamp Load (lbs) 1210
Disc O.D. (mm) 200
Spline Teeth/Major Dia. (mm) 21T / 24.1
Clutch Disc Material Organic
Number of Disc Single

The ratings for the FTE equivalent are much higher.

I missed out this

This shows it is made with a range of parts in the US and not Japan only.

Stuff it. Buy a Techniclutch. Their pretty good, heard good things about them from the pug 106 lads (also a pug 106 driver)........I had one for my old 106 rallye but never got around to fitting it, felt a very strong heavy duty and sturdy clutch which looked well made..

Techniclutch are available on ebay. Their good to deal with as well, always kept in contact when i bought from them.

The thing you need to remember with clutches is that it's torque that causes them to slip not power.

A fellow GTti member had a 50% uprated item from exedy on his 157BHP GTti with a standard turbo. Torque would be so great and early (155 lbs/ft) that it caused the clutch to slip midrange.

He then fitted a hybrid, ran the same boost and got 182BHP with 140 lbs/ft of torque and the clutch never slipped due to the delivery of the power.

In Dave's case the power is reached so far up the range that the torque at this time isn't as great or a sudden force like a smaller turbo would produce. It's much harder for an engine to exert a great amount of torque on a flywheel that is already rotating at high RPM. The same clutch might well slip running a turbo which reaches full boost at 3.5k.

That looks genuine, check for the Daikin logo etched into the pressure or clutch plate. Also check the numbers on the boxes, but from what I can see it looks genuine.

Thanks for the heads up. Looking for parts on ebay it's mad how many fake parts are out there from TRD rad caps to HKS blow of valves. I even read the other week about some poor guy spending £400 on a so called Blitz ECU which turned out to be a standard ECU with stickers on it.
