there are facts, and there are opinions....fact is, like for like...actually, I've explained it already, can't be bothered.
But automatics can be made to be faster as it eliminates the human error from the situation. Before you reply with anything, just read what you're saying - you've been in both cars and your IMPRESSION, as in, from the seat of your pants, is that the Automatic SEEMS faster...but do you have any concise evidence of it? Are the 2 cars identically powered/modified? Is the driver of the manual car actually any good at changing gears?? That final point is the one to think about. Alfradio, a guy just turned 65, get's a 14sec dead quarter mile on what's pretty much a Standard (bar a FMIC and perhaps upped boost) 4EFTE installed in a HEAVIER car. His 60ft times of 2sec dead are damn impressive. Evidence he knows how to change gears? His quarter mile time is mentioned above, yet his trapspeed is around 75mph...that's it, 75...
There's no point in asking who's driven a "quick automatic". The answer is there "QUICK automatic"...so ofcourse it's going to be quick!!! What's it going to be compared to? "Oh, I've driven a similar car that was in no way modified the same way, but I presume it had the same power, and driving them back to back I PRESUME the Auto is quicker cause...my butt dyno tells me so!"
Sorry for the rant, but it's such a dumb arguement over which is faster, cause fact of the matter is, you're not comparing like for like. The ONLY car I've ever read about where the Automatic version was quicker, is the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo...why? Well, I doubt anyone can shift quick enough off the line when a 483bhp, twin turbocharged, AWD vehicle launches off the line. Cars like the Bugatti Veyron, R35 Nissan GTR (it's not called a Skyline anymore) have Semi-Automatic transmissions? Simple - it can DEAL with that amount of power.
