Well IMO even if you raised the membership fee on this site to £20 per year i would still pay it, not only cause i am a trader but because i like the site alot and has tonnes of information and very fast replies which alot of site lack.

The subscription here is cheap. The only forum I use that is cheaper/better value for money is SW-CC (South Wales Car Club). Membership there is £10/year, which gets obsurd discounts at some places, the best being my local track. They run a trackday at cost price, so a Saturday is £60 to members. Most other clubs run trackdays at the same venue for £100+, so the club is making a decent wedge. Membership has paid for itself there.

Hi guys,

the subscription here is not in question and to be honest even at £15.76 I think a voluntary donation is quite reasonable to assist the site you love and spend so much time on.

The trouble with voluntary systems, we had one for a long time, is that people tend not to donate enough to keep the site running. There will always be people who do not wish to contribute for whatever their reasons are and that is fine especially when they do not have the 10EURO per year to donate. People who come on all the time and act like it is out of principle that they do not subscibe amuse me greatly.

I think the very small amount we restrict on here for paying members is enough to promote the distribution of information about our community whilst showing our appreciation for members who keep the site alive.

If I couldnt afford/couldnt bring myself to pay for the upkeep of the site I would post an appreciation thread thanking the paying members for keeping the site I visit so often alive. If I thought the site had nothing interesting to offer I wouldnt visit anymore, quite simple really.

I was originally against it, but thinking about it I'd be more than happy to pay £20+. This site has helped me out so many times, and there are some quality people on here! I love TGTT :)

hey sx turbo that 15.76 gets you
a full set of uksc stickers
a donated member sig under your name
allows you upload your own attachments etc,

its weard ther is the odd few that have never used the site and as soon as they sign up they pay the fee and are happy with that £15 and what it gets you.

the donation feature has been open for 6 od months and we have about a dozen members which have donated. only a small number but their money will easily cover server costs, and domain names for over a year!

and as your site grows the number of donating members will need to also grow to cover hosting etc. Its all relative.

Anyway guys I am not 100% sure why the staff of uksc and their members are on tgtt.com discussing this, perhaps it should be discussed in the suggestions/feedback area of the site if you guys have one over there.

Best of luck with the site and as mentioned above I dont think its a large amount if you use the site and like it then whats the problem?

simply because sx raised a poin, i was just clarifying what you get with the donation, pretty simple really.

people this wasnt to discuss which is the better site or what that £15.76 gets you at all.

it was mereley to prove that people moaning that they think there getting screwed over on the forum for paying £6, and to make them think twice the next time they decide to rant and rave that they dont think the £6 fee is reasonable.

if those people look elsewhere they'll find its not a bad deal at all.

UKSC was just us as a comparison. maybe i shouldnt have used that particular site and used something else

hmmm oh is that the reason?? that is simple... wonder why I wasnt able to figure that out on my own.

I meant I am not sure why this isnt being discussed on your site. It will probably get a larger number of replies on here so fine with me if you prefer to discuss it here, thats what we are here for :)

Happy posting

You raised the thread and I'm giving an opinion. I can't see the problem, I don't see why I should pay £6 and I havent - I have and do contribute to the forum in other ways regardless if I'm a Starlet fan or not - and also regardless of whether you like or dislike what I say.

I don't pay on any other boards or forums and I've been part of various ones for eight years or so - so this isn't just about car forums.

If it was club membership then I have no problem - thats different, I pay £25 a year for my club membership but I get discounts at various companys on Daihatsu porducts, insurance discounts, I get reduced price tickets to shows and events. I get CD's and an electronic magazine etc.

Funny thing is I was going to pay the price to become a proper member I just haven't got round to it yet. My activity comes and goes on these forums.
