i went the same way,the only debt i owe is to my social life for spending it all on the car.:(

i expect most of the cars get broken because otherwise there is no money in it

i'd have broken mine if i had the space, but needed it gone. did want to achieve 250bhp on it, but just got a bit bored with it i suppose.

i got a volvo 340 that i thought i would have for the winter and already, like alan d said, i've got itchy feet. i am looking at cars to get next as i need to do something to a car, and really dont intend on doing anything to the volvo, even if they do look mental slammed on 14'' deep dish alloys. lol

Very simple answer, you dont get half your money back unless you do break it.

Most folk probally imagine them to be cheap at 270bhp as a run around and its quite the opposite, im lucky if i get 200miles to a tank and even at that i find it good.

Probally they see something else and rather than losing money on there car again they break to get more.

And also whats debt go to do with? Its getting the cash up front without having to wait on saving up for it ... cant see a problem if they have the money to pay it back. Personal choice also on the individual.

When I see mint big spec GT's breaking I wish there was some way to get the shells to Barbados. These cars are old and only the real enthusiast stick with them year after year, keeping them as mint as possible. If you guys chose to, you can always find another fresh import, We will never get another GT imported to Barbados. You hardly ever see one selling, and definitely not in parts unless extremely damaged in a crash, and I mean extreme damage. Those who own them and love them, never part with them. As for tuning, I agree with those who say building a balanced response machine is where it's at over a big hp monster.

I think 99% of us here are born to modify and change things, its in our blood, so when we can no longer modify something we get itchy feet and need a new project.

that hits the nail on the head for me, if I did break, it would be to fund the new project as it's the only way to get a semi reasonable amount of coin back.

I think people when modding don't really think about how they want the car to drive when they've finished all their modding.

Chasing figures and long spec lists doesn't really mean much to me.

I think people just use a template and when it's all finished they are disappointed.

Forged engine - big turbo - big brakes - coilovers - paddle clutch etc etc

not enough is put into how the power you've got is delivered, I think a well tuned td04 @ around 240 would be a lot more fun to drive than some 320bhp impractical monster.

thats exactly what ive been thinking over the last while, you see althese big powered starlets being built and then broken after a couple of weeks of use.

when I start to push more power from the car id prefer to have maybe 240-250bhp that can be driven every day and enjoyed.

hmmm though who has these impractical cars at 320bhp? there isnt many floating about, and any that i know off have a specific purpose and it isnt to get them to work lol

Good thread.

I've broken many cars over the years for parts and still find the number of cars being resigned to the scrapyard alarming.

In terms of my own fleet I have no plans to chop them into pieces and throw them to the vultures just yet. I'm enjoying myself too much. Why give someone else all the fun?

Hold on to your EP's people. They are certainly getting rarer by the week.

This thread had spurred immediate attention from me as i was also thinking this question to myself

Just before last christmas i broke my starlet basically to get more money to put into my new project and i regret it since being my first road car and ep i loved it from the hardship to the joys and i never gave up on it, my new project is what im calling my ultimate starlet, im putting everything into it, im constantly broke BUT i never ever regret a minute of it and i no i wont either

i love it, while all my friends are out on the town pissed off there heads and pissing and spewing there money against the wall i am burried in my life (my car) its brings me too tears at the worst of times but the feeling i get from knowning that iv created this is un-describable I honestly couldn put it into words

this forum has been my religion since i joined and because of it i will NEVER break or sell my ep iv worked to the bone for everything that i have for it and as said by others before i have not and will not get a loan and owe a fortune

I would prefer to leave it in a shed than destroy something I have put so much into, i will always be modifying as long as i can and my starlet will remain with me forever
and for someone who says: when you get to a serious stage of modifying a car that car becomes impractical to drive and own i dont believe that because isnt that what you are going for, its this exact thing that makes us modifiers, We change our cars to a spec that factories wouldn dream of making because its what we do, its why we buy ep's and not a daewoo lanos if you want practical be a sheep stick with the flock and dont be unique

sorry for the long winded post i just feel strongly about this subject
