Hey,

This could be a very stupid question but does fueling the starlet with normal petrol instead of super unleaded/bp ultimate damage the actual car or just make it not run as well? I have had to put two tanks of normal unleaded in because i literally cant afford super :(

im just worried by doing this im causing damage to the car?

it will be fine if you dont drive it hard.

super only works out a couple of £££ extra per tank? surely you cant afford to run the car if you cant afford a few extra £££???

actually its alot extra around here...its went up to 135.8 which means instead of costing £35 to fill my tank it now costs £47 and i do about 60 miles a day to work so that doesnt last long

thanks

in Malta we dont have any fuel choice, we only have normal unleaded fuel as every car runs on that and tuned on that too and they run as expected without any problems

Best to run on High Octaine Super, these cars run higher when there in Japan. It wont damage your car or a short period/term but it may have issues long term, i personally wouldnt use regular fuel.

i use topaz petrol and i find it last longer then cheaper fuel but. maxol uses e5 fuel its ment to be 98.5 octane which you notice the difference. bu could i still put more octane in it?? oh yea the petrol tank is it a 37 litre tank???

used to use normal fuel from shell and had no issues for about year.
changed to super as felt probably best for the car in the long run.

i dont really understand where your getting that from its 128 for normal unleaded and 135.8 for super unleaded which is a difference of near 8p per litre which might not sound like much but adds up when you fill the tank!

I said it used to take £35 to fill my tank on super before it went up in price and now it costs £47 to fill...i didnt say anything about the price or normal unleaded? lol and i usually have to fill up the car twice a week because of the miles i do so thats roughly £100 a week for petrol running on super unleaded....i dont know about you but i certainly cant afford £100 a week for petrol

assuming the tank is 37 litres and according to the prices you stated the cost will be just under £3 extra per full tank. with the £12 extra you said it costs it meant that the price of normal unleaded would be about £1 per litre.

if your filling up twice a week then that is a £6 saving. better than nothing but hardly something worth worrying about.

well we cant get proper 99 octane here only 95-97. i used to pay through the nose for 97 then about a year ago i said sod it and have been running it on 95 since.
if i am going anywhere with a 99 garage i fill up but tbh your car will be fine on 95.

Normal 95 will be fine ;)
The knock sensor will pick up on it and adjust to the ignition to suit.

Exactly, and I seriously doubt that 95 will cause it to knock on the standard ignition timing.

Thanks guys that's a big help

I filled it up before the fuel went up and it was £35 then filled up after and it went up and it was £47 that's an increase for me of £12 a tank no offence but I know what I am paying so I know what the increase in cost for me is....
