My Friend has a query as to what engine oil he should use.

Make - Honda
Model - CRX Del Sol
Year - 1993
Engine size/type - 1.6 DOHC VTEC

Any mods - Full Exhaust/Decat

Type of use - Fast Road

Additional info - Currently using Castrol Magnatec 10w - 40 engine has around 80000 miles on it.

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine Oil.

Oil Man,

I am currently using 5w/30 Redline oil and will change to 5w/40 as per your recommendation. However, Redline do not appear to do a 5w/40, so which brand of oil would you recommend?

I was thinking of Millers? They seem to have great feedback..

Redline, good but expensive. Here it 5w-40 styleee http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1002-redline-high-performance-synthetic-motor-oil-5w-40.aspx

Or this one is well worth a look http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1146-si...nthetic-oil-for-high-performance-engines.aspx

Cheers

Tell them they are wrong, 10w-40 semi is fine. Total is french but ok, average kind of stuff.

Either 10w-40 or better still 5w-40 synthetic for a stock engine.

Cheers

Guy.

10w-40 semi is fine with regular changes, if he wants to treat it then 5w-40 synthetic.

Magnatec is ok, just well opver priced for what it is (bog standard semi 10w-40).

Is that the Silkolene XTR 10w-40?If so ideal, it wont bugger your engine.

great info in here.
what about cold starts in hot places where the average temps outside would be 80 and above year round. Would 5w be too thin? Right now 10w40 in all cars, as always fully synthetic.

Oil Man,

Following on from your recommendation of Redline 5w/40 oil, can you please advise on the maximum operating temperature this oil would be able to sustain and for what period of time?

Basically, my normal operating temperature is around 80c, 90c on motorway runs. However, when pushing it I can reach 100c on hotter days.

Therefore, if I was really pushing it on a hot day, 5th gear, motorway for example, would my engine be safe at 100/110c degree's and for how long would the oil sustain this temperature before breaking down?

Thanks in advance.

Its more than up to the job, it will run around at 130degc all day long with shearing down, so normal service scheduling will be fine.
