My car does run rich (as said by tuners) and as i only have the stock enigine temp gauge, im not sure if it is going over 90 degrees or not.

I never seem to get any heat out of my heaters, maybe after a long drive.

As said by many, should i just get a new thermostat & see if it makes any difference?

Cheers, :)

Dan, running without a thermostat will let the car run to cold, it will NOT overheat.
Only reason for a car to overheat wuld be the fan not to work, or internal damage to the engine, ie H/Gasket or Waterpump..

Fair doozz, i must have been mistaken

Change your thermostat. Cheap and easy.

Right people aren't getting the point.... I'm very mechanically minded and know how cooling works I it is more of the people who have had the problem with a GT as all cars can suffer different problems. I used a new thermostat as it i sn't possible to seal the GT housing without 1 as far as I can see. It runs as though the thermostat is wide open all the time it takes a long time to warm up and runs too cool to be right! but its new! I think I need to bleed the heater core as I having to rev to get it even luke arm... Just wanted an easy cure lol... Oh well back to the freezing conditions outside.

I've noticed mine if I just drive it it doesn't heat up though if I let it idle it warms up to correct temp and generally stays there, never goes over though.

I'm using a Civic radiator, it only started when I changed to this radiator.

This may sound silly but are you putting the thermostat in the right way round.

Chuck your thermostat in some water and bring to the boil in a pan, should open before it boils.

Did you fit the thermostat the right way round, the bleed nipple at the top?

No offence but have you ever taken one off a starlet? they will only fit 1 way round because of the depth of the housing! So yes its right.

Not checked the new thermostat to see if it works so I'm gonna have to get it done. Found today I have an air lock in the heater matrix but can't sort
it too easy cos me hosepipe is frozen solid! I thawed the outside tap to find the hose was rock solid so I gave up lol.

Will try and yes hole was at top when I put it in. When I get chance I'm gonna check all this thanks all for replies.

Bloody good cooling they are but fan hardly ever gets to cut in lol... which worries that it running too cool!

Yea I have worries its running far to cool, I'm not overly concerened atm because I'm about to forge but the problem will be serious when I'm trying to run in a new engine.

Must try rebleeding the system, the stats only 10 months old but may put another one in just incase.

is the 4efte thermostat the same as the standard 4efe stat? for when i go to motorfactors and order a new one? my starlet also never runs above 1/4 temp and the heaters are crap. so i think it could be this. cheers for the info guys!

I have a race civic rad in mine, at this time of year, during normal driving, water temp rarely goes above the 1 third up mark, about 75 degrees on the temp guage.

They work really well, almost to well for normal use, but the car never overheats when you rag it.

Only time the fan comes on is in the summer in traffic.

As above you don't want to over do it when it comes to water cooling as it directly related to oil temperature as well, you don't want it over efficient but at the same time you don't want it under it needs to be a careful balance of the two.

I would recommend what Luke said first and test the new thermostat to see if it's doing its job as there isn't much else it can be. The water temp gauge is also only a guidance so for complete peice of mind you could test with a true gauge to see the actual figures you are getting. You want to be seeing around 80 degrees with normal driving and no more than 90 degeres when planting it.
