We are all fucked, 2012 mot changes

I can't see anything in the MOT inspection manual (issue date 01/01/2012) that raises any great concern. There could be some arguments for EP91 owners running around without a cat installed, and those with aftermarket HID lights will probably have to drop the standard halogen bulbs back in for the MOT, but that seems about it?

I can't see anything additional that relates to the supplementary electrical or engine management systems?

Look at it this way the exhaust thing with the loudness of an exhaust is a grey area
The mot way is is it the same noise level as a standard car p the same spec etc
If we were to fail every car that had a stainless steel system that was louder it would put a lot of companies out of business

Depends on what's fitted to the car as standard eg and ect and some of it will apply to all cars
The main thing I noticed that will cause concern is the dust cover split ( ball joints track rod ends drop links ) of the dust covers split it fails
And if the cars got a broken spring it could pass depending if the spring is still ok and still holding enough in the cup lol
I will be best uploading the documents lol

It read to me that as long as the seat can be slid back and forwards and locked into at least 3 positions, there's no reason for rejection. So if your bucket seats are on rails there's no issue.

The only thing I read about hids, other than the normal aim requirement, is that washers and self levelling systems, where fitted, must be operational. Nothing about aftermarket kits at all, and certainly nothing about having to have the washers and levelling systems fitted.
As for catalysts, it only applies to cars that require a full cat test, and that is only for vehicles post 95. But i imagine imports are different again. Vosa bases all of its information on crappy eu regulations. If a car has not been designed to meet the eu regulations as it's not intended to be sold there, then the legislations can't possibly apply. This is very good news especially as starlets are old cars now.

Missing, or split/damaged dust covers on steering and suspension ball-joints will result in failure if they will allow dirt to enter the joint.

A lot of old cars would fail on that!

I don't think you realise how important the EU for the UK. You'd get around 2-3 times increase in good prices if it wasn't for the EU, for instance milk and sugar would cost A LOT more, as the EU regulates the prices and compensate the farmers for selling their products too "cheap".

The UK doesn't produce much anymore, most of it comes from the EU and as it's a free trade zone it's makes pretty much everything cheaper for us.

thats fair enough, but you go to a lot of the other EU countries and it looks like we are the only fools following the rules. have you seen the vehicles that are driven around in most Mediterranean countries? i have seen better cars in scrap yards!!!

its not as bad news as people fear,

ultimately its still down to the mot testers discretion, and i can assure you most wouldnt be bothered to look for remaps etc.

also if the car has been remapped there is no way of telling.

as for the other checks thats pretty standard stuff.

and it cant all be as black and white as you say as there is loads of specialist track cars like caterhams etc that use standalone engine management.

i say dont worry about it it's just scare mongering
