I wouldn't buy anything until you find out what happens at court mate. No point buying a big, flash garden ornament.

aye we have them on the dual carraigeways leading to motorway in wigan. But yet ppl ring 999 and dont get much attendance by the police.

A few months ago, the copper stood in middle of road with his speed gun as i was coming towards him, didnt see him til last min (was night time) and had to swerve to the right slightly to avoid him, i managed brake a car length after him. It was an awful incident, but i didnt get any points (not because im female) but because i think he was scared id report him for his behaviour to me afterwards ( i got sworn at and pulled out my car by him) but it did open my eyes. I learned from it but i still think they behave wrong. Who stands in the middle of a dark road? And the ones near the dual carraigeways they hide behind the bollards crouched down, but we always spot them drive past in a convoy of jap cars do 20mph and wave at them :p

@jay, Oh no, jay you got me wrong bud, im not going to but the car until i know exactly what the outcome is, that would most definitely be silly.

sorry to hear dude, does suck they all came at once... just try to push the fact you need a car for work, they do tend to not have as much leway for people who already have point though.

good luck with it, they might jsut order you to retake your test which sucks but better than a ban

Cheers dan, yeah that wouldnt be soo bad either, just a retake...

By the way does anyone know weather your points do remain if you get your license taken? or do you get it back clean?

tbh i was in the wrong i was doing above 30mph and i saw a man in the road it appeared he was crossing the road but i didnt slow down as i knew if he carried his pace and i did he would have reached the other side before i got to him but when he turned around and just stood there i sh*t myself to say the least!

Hope it all works out Dan.

Krissy, cheers for that mate....

Yeah i did think they were still on the license even after a re-sit...

So in the insurance eyes after 3 years they dont need to know about the points but i would still have all these points until the 4 years up? and getting another 3 before the 4 years would still result in a ban?

Dan, they may be harsh and ban you, but the chances are they will consider the knock on effects the ban will have. When it goes to court you need to show and prove that its not only you the ban would affect. For example, If I was going to court for it Id claim that If they take my licence I'd loose my job. From loosing my job I would then be unable to pay my rent which would mean me and my brother would loose our house, potentially becomming jobless and homeless.
It all depends on the judge and how well you prove third parties will be negatively affected.

Yeah thats a very good point that is...

Will have to look into this further and talk to a solicitor....

Either way with 12 points my insurance rises by something ridiculous! Ive just been getting quotes on a new civic type R, and with 6 points its £1200 Fully comp, with 12 points its around £4,500!!!!! So the car scene is going to seriously stop for me the next few years, so wont be seeing much of me and the car im afraid :(

Im really down about this.

Get a charade, haha. Cheap car, cheap insurance, good performance and doesn't get much past 115mph anyway!

nah i know that mate :)

But i also know charades are not very reliable as a whole or compared to alot of other cars.... And newer cars are generally more reliable/less wear and tear due to the age of parts etc causing less hassle...

After getting loads of quotes all day yesterday on all sorts of cars, I know what im going for now anyway as ive got an extremely good quote even with 12 points... An EK9 civic type R... I have to get a sporty car, i cant go years without one, its in my blood...

Note: the starlet is staying put too :)

Also after talking to alot of people ive heard once you get a ban your points do come off.. Makes sense as if your points stayed on after a ban i'd still have 12? then another 3 i get a ban again and the cycle keeps going round....?? Im sure thats not the case...

You do however have to let the insurance know about your convictions... This is what ive heard by a few others... and to me makes more sense....

Does anyone actually know for a fact, and has experience in this?

cheers

I know your no mug but newer doesnt always mean more reliable, even motors fresh out of the showroom!

Quoted for truth.

What did the solicitor say Dan, they can guide you on the points issues too.

It would be shortsighted to buy a new car with such a dark cloud overhead mate.

this is very unlucky mate :(

my mate got 12 points on his licence went to court and they let him off he still has the 12 points but gets to keep his licence because he needs it for his work and to support his family so as its your life style and career you might just stand a chance

hope it goes this way for you bud
