this is karas fella i work for a tuning company and driven many over rated cars ect.. skylines are slow they need to be running 500+ to even feel a little fast its to do with power to weight and there so bloody heavy only good supras are single turbo ones running at least a gt35-40 there twin turbo set ups are rubbish ive know the turbines to come out the exhaust when pulling just over a bar!!!

dunno, I still dont think the supra is overrated, it does what it claims to do pretty well and the base platform of the car is great for tuning, tried tested and proven. Then again I suppose some people do carry on like they are the fastest cars in the world which in stock form they clearly are not.
Interesting some of the other cars mentioned in this thread. I would agree with the honda stuff. They are good cars, no doubt about that, but many people talk them up a bit too much. That whole vtec thing is funny... when I drove my first vtec engine I was expecting it to be like a kick in the arse but it was more like a roar in the ear.
Id like to drop the mitsi FTO in there also... used to be lots of them doing the rounds in Ireland a few years ago and people who owned them used to talk them up a lot. I drove one and was so disappointed.

It depends what you want from a car. I think the GTST skylines are fantastic cars. Give them 330bhp , coilovers and a 2 way diff and you can scare yourself.
Again, it depends what you want from a car. IMO if you want to be just spinning about giving it the odd little blast then a JDM rwd car won't suit you

As said by others above. The V-TEC is a masterpiece of Japanese engineering but its not a jet engine which is what most of the people that own them in the Republic think. My problem isn't with the car itself, its with the VAST majority of the people over here that own them or have owned them but then this thread is about over-rated cars and its the owners that over rate cars, not the cars themselves
I would disagree about the Gts-t's though. I seen one down here on the dyno make 400 bhp and it was actually the sickest yoke ive ever been in. They way it came on boost was retarded, it was silly. We did fit a RB26 and a GReddy TD06 to it though so it wasn't standard but still, it was on of the most mental cars ive ever seen
As for the Supra's, ive only ever driven one of those and it was pretty much standard but way a relatively quick car, nothing spectacular but then not many cars in standard form that the majority of us get a chance to drive are

Working for a tuning company you should have been aware that ceramic blade turbos the Supra's use are not safe over 1 bar.
This doesn't mean they are rubbish though. They are good for what they were designed to do and that is be at there standard boost they can spool instantly.
Just because you were trying to push them over there limits doesn't mean they are rubbish! In fact I think it is you the tuner is rubbish:haha::haha::haha::haha:

iv just gone from a Highly modded glanza to a EVO 5, and no offence, i wouldnt look back at a glanza/starlet. Unless you have owned any of the cars were mentioning then i dont really feel we can comment, my mate has owned a twin turbo supra, converted it to a big single turbo pushing 600+ and found it amazing to drive, the only reason why we feel supras/skylines are slow, is due to the weight/power of the starlet. yes there quick, put there shite handling, shite top end and you have to spend ££££'s to get them to 300bhp???

back on topic, most overrated cars are hybrid cars. supposed to do 70mpg but most car magazines can only get 50 out of them, and youve paid ten grand extra on one.

Oh one more for the mix... never driven one but the Delorean has to be in there. Hailed as the future and referred to by some as a supercar but in reality it knocked out a whopping 130hp when it hit the streets in the US with a blistering 0 - 60 of 10.5 seconds. It would hit 88mph only in back to the future... "ROADS!... where we're going we need miles of roads!!"

Have to agree on the Civic's, i drove a mates EK9 SIR Civic and I wasnt impressed at all.
Just having to wait so long for the power to kick in, and when it did I wasnt impressed with it one bit, very lack of power from the V-Tech, car was mapped with cams and all but it couldnt put a smile on my face!

Power wise Honda's with Vtec have to be the most over rated cars in Ireland I hear so many guys going on about Sohc and Dohc enough to give me a headache seriously your cars arent as fast as ye think they are Honda owners and no I dont need to race to prove it I've got it in writing!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone has knocked the Honda's as a car, its the vast majority of the drivers of Honda's (in Rep. of Ireland) that we have been giving out about. They are the one's who make them out to be more than what Honda every meant them to be which was a quick, reliable, sporty car that was economical when driven easy, nothing more nothing less. Thats the whole point of V-TEC
