Well I find NI much stricter than what Scotland was generally speaking, as the only MOT places are government run centres. Not sure about rule differences though

the mot manual states

Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986:

These must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens.

So going by the above, side repeaters are not needed

Can you supply an online link a government/official site stating this so that users can present it to the MOT Tester? This would be very useful for everyone going forward.

That came from the mot centre manager and he aint giving me certificate til i put them on so it not bollocks and by putting them on will prob cause less hassle for next year.

You say you 'know its in ireland' well its not it in northern ireland, separate country mate, ireland have an nct which is probably the same thing only different name.

they say they are clamping down on it, however rules/regs have to be rewritten - as theres many cars other than starlets that have not got repeaters on the side of the car.

I wouldnt just go sticking some on, without looking into the full rules and regs, as they cant go changing the rules like that.

Guys I got stung about not having side repeaters and I even complained to the MOT station stating this rule off the site

Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an 'E' mark in a circle or an 'e' mark in a rectangle above which is a number 5. Some vehicles are fitted with a wraparound lens with no European approval markings. These can be tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicles rear bumper with indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable.

Apparently the Starlet wraparound lenses have the wrong E marking on them and therefore dont fall under teh above test which when carried out on the Starlet it passsed as you could clearly see it flashing from that position.

Load of fucking bollocks if you ask me I was annoyed because I had to cut holes in my ZEP fenders to fit them :shoot:

It's bullshit Neil. They do not need them as the front indicators can be seen from the side (that's what the curved bits of the lense are for).

You're not disputing it hard enough.

Just had a look at an online manual:

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_150.htm

Check the section for vehicle used after 1986 at the bottom..

Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an 'E' mark in a circle or an 'e' mark in a rectangle above which is a number 5."

I'll have a scan at a front indicator later and see if this applies.

"Some vehicles are fitted with a wraparound lens with no European approval markings. These can be tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicles rear bumper with indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable."

I bet you'll be able to see the front corner lamp thanks to the flared out area of the lense.

Should give you some ammo to fire at them.

I'd have told him that you recommended his testers were properly clued up to save you any hassle in future.
