Hi Guy,

I've got a short question.

I'm currently using 5w30 oil *full synth* from the local Toyota dealer. Works fine, but I've done around 4000 km and I want to change my oil. I have a 5L full synth quality brand 0W40 oil here. Is that too thin in summer conditions? I'm using the FTE (completely stock) with granny style driving and for short distances mostly (<10km ) during the week. Weekends are more mileage:)

Marco.

I doubt the oil is a genuine synthetic, more likely to be the hydrocracked mineral oil variety. With regular changes will be ok.

Comma oil are pretty cheap and chearfull, can give me any more info on the gear oil as in the specs it meets API GL? etc you will find them written on the tub somewhere.

Cheers

Hi There

I am running a ep82 turbo with basic mods. I live in Namibia Africa so our temps are a bit higher than europe/japan. At the moment I am running my engine on Castrol Edge Sport 10w60 fully synthetic. It is the same oil I run in my 300+hp Pajero and no probs so far. Would you say it's ok for the starlet?

Thanks

Hi oilman, do you think I'm using the correct oil?

I'v got a 96 Glanza V, currently running standard engine with Exedy paddle clutch, Jun lighweight flywheel, Blitz SUS Power air filter, Sard R2D2, Monster motorsport oil catch can w/ double pcv valve setup, NGK iridium spark plugs (heat range 7), toyota oil filter relocated to above intercooler, air-con removed, and hi/low still connected. With only clutch and flywheel she was making 140hp at the flywheel.

I'm using castol magnatec 5w30....is this ok?

The Magnatec is ok, but you can do much better. Essentially the Magnatec 5w-30 is a semi synthetic (100% mineral base) the next step up would be to a proper synthetic 5w-30 or 5w-40.

Cheers
