Oil advice and recommendations here

Hi Guy.

Could you give me your opinion on Shell Helix Ultra 5w40? I can get hold of a 20ltr drum for £70, so sounds a reasonable price to me?

I've been using Castrol Magnatec Pro C3 5w40 for sometime now with no apparent issues, but my supply has dried up and the Shell oil seems to be better priced.

Cheers buddy! :)

Its ok mate, similar to the likes of the Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w-40. Its a group III Hydrocracked jobbie. Keep it to regular changes and all will be good.

At the minut i run a 10-40 semi synthetic cause i just thought oil was oil, but my local starlet buff reckons i would be best with a 5-40 fully synthetic as thats what he and most other local starlets run, and going by what youve told others i think it might be time for a change!?

Ive got a 93 ep82 with standard internals running a hybrid with supporting mods at 1.1bar, what you think?

Also, the oils you quoted below, are they in any kind of order or are they all similarly good quality?

Silkolene Pro S, Gulf Competition, Redline and Motul 300V are about as good as oil gets

Also, did you say somewhere that the mobil1 was a good oil? or are the above ones better?

Sorry for all the questions, cheers!

Ok, thanks for that. And a 5w-40 fully synthetic should be fine? Would i need to somehow try flush out ALL the semi synthetic before i filled with fully?

Cheers

thanx for the answer. What your opinion on the castrol fully synthetic oils? Quality wise and what would you suggest as service interval?

Thanx again

What do you want a recommendation for? engine oil to use, just about to service, and gearbox oil for a manual gearbox with a clunky aftermarket lsd (trying to make it clunk less!), that i believe to be a cusco.

thank you very much.

5w-40 synthetic for the engine, loads to choose from but the best and most popular are the ester based synthetics that can be found here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-953-ester-synthetic.aspx

For the gearbox a 75w-90, cant go wrong with the Silkolene Syn5 75w-90 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90.aspx
