Shell V-Power is the best road fuel on sale in the UK, FACT!

Not only is it now rated at 99RON, shell are renouned for under selling their products, because the 98RON Optimax, as told by a Petrolchemical Engineer from Shell, was never sent into the tankers below 98.9RON!

I've yet to see him regarding the badged 99RON Gear, but if anything like the past happens, it'll be 100RON Juice!

Shell FTW :)

Another arguement for Shell, is that Tesco 99 Dogpiss, is actually 95RON base fuel, made up to 99 with junk.

Shell also has a small amount of injector cleaner, and oil in it, to stop corrosion of fuel line components, hence the famous V-Power smell, when something comes past running on it!

allways on BP 100ron fuel.

95ron or less fuel tends to detonate on boost/high compression ratios causing the knock sensor to lower the advance thus top end power.

thats what ive been told and seen so allways on 100ron fuel

There is a reason you should use higher octane fuel on high performing engines, especially turbo'd ones. It helps to reduce det/pinking as it burns much more efficiently in the cylinders. Lower octane fuels can actrually be quite dangerous to turbo'd engines running high boost levels.

I will not use anything other than Vpower and I always put in a bottle of Millers octane booster before going on track.

cool. thanks for all the replies guys. seems like v-power is the most popular and most recommended then. i only ever used v-power in the cupra anyway but from what i've heard the VAG 1.8t engines only like high octane stuff anyway and the one time i didn't use it i got problems. i've always run my glanza on normal unleaded (only have basic mods, exhaust, filter etc) so if i start to use v-power from now on will it have any effect on the engine ? basically, do you guys think i should start using v-power from now on or just keep using normal unleaded ? and would an engine suffer if it used different fuel on a regular basis ? not that that's what i'm going to do, just curious to know.

thanks.

You wont notice any difference if you put v-Power in it to be honest. I whack some in mine from time to time but dont notice any difference with it.

cool. thanks fella. i didn't think it would but i'm just trying to decide whether or not it's worth me changing permanently to v-power or not.

thanks for the replies guys.

To give you an idea.

Subaru UK will not cover piston failure on an Impreza under warranty if it can be proved the vehicle has been run on regular unleaded.

When you use regular unleaded in one of the more recent Volkswagen Group FSI engines you can expect to see reduced performance, lower MPG and a rather bemusing yellow warning lamp. All because the ECU starts seeing more knock.

There is a difference. Anyone in this game for a long spell should be on the super unleaded (provided it is available).

It's like me running on cheapo Cossack vodka instead of Smirnoff. :haha:

I used normal petrol for the first few months and found i was getting 220 miles to the tank max. I then tried bp ultimate and found i was getting almost an extra 75miles to the tank!

Standard jap fuel is about 100 octane so im guessing jap imports are mapped to run higher octane fuels?

The electronic spark advance system constantly advances and retards ignition timing based on knock readings. Spark advance is locked during initial engine start up but as the car is driven the ESA will advance ignition timing until the ECU see's a predetermined knock reading, it will then start to retard ignition timing until the knock level drops, then again advance ignition timing until the ECU see's a predetermined knock reading and again start to retard ignition timing and so on.

So the ECU will make ignition timing adjustments based on the knock resistance of the fuel being used. Generally, the ECU will give more ignition advance when you are using a higher octane fuel resulting in better performance and better fuel economy.

I would not ever used normal unleaded on my jap performance cars. They were used to high octane in japland so i feel as though its necessary to keep it up.

My starlet was mapped on Vpower so used that. On the EK9 i used mostly Vpower and occasionally other super unleaded if i was near one at the time.
