My lack in boost pressure?

well if i were to send it to someone i would go straight to the si, bloke who built the motor for me..... as obviously i know he knows exactly what hes doing.....

but would rather change the turbo myself if thats what the problem is.....

That turbo looks fine. The wastegate is closed like it should be and if there is no shaft play then it shouldn't be the turbo. You said when you drove it there was a whiring noise when boost should have come in. That sounds like a boost leak. Thats the noise mine makes if an intercooler pipe pops off.

You said you changes the dump valve recently. Have you looked at that and made sure its not leaking boost? You're problem seems to have happened when you changed that.

If it was a cracked piston then you would hear it running on 3 cylinders like a scooby. And it would probably still boost anyway - mine did.

Also blue smoke when it happened could be unburnt fuel maybe from losing boost but you still had your foot to the floor? When it happened was there a pop noise or any kind of uncommon noise?

BTW what's your setup? 2.0 turbo? What bhp has it dynod at?

Edit - Just found your build thread! Very nice! But what bhp?

When i was driving it with my foot down it went but there wasnt a noise, just a complete loss of boost..... yeah i agree with you mate, it sounds like when my boost pipe normally pops off but this time all pipes are fine... but will check all joiners when i get a chance as there are some behind the bumper i cant actually inspect properly.....

i have changed the DV recently but i changed back to the baileys today and the problem is still there..... and the car was running completely fine with the new dump valve on for a week, it was only when i put the new 3inch side exit exhaust on and decided to hit 1.25bar of boost....... and also opened the performance up as the last exhaust was restricting it as it was only a 2inch straight through......

yeah 2.0litre mate... last dyno was at a shitty mobile dyno at the pod on the last exhaust and it made 290bhp and 310bls of torque, but believe me its running more then that... with the new exhaust i would say about 320HP.... even with the old system used to terrorize cars it shouldn't be with only 290hp...... and had a flat spot for about 700RPM then went up again?

I will get it on the dyno again once working and remapped with the new system....

Hang on, How can you tell that the turbo in the pictures looks fine?, all you can see is the wastegate, and the exhaust end, no fins or anything, so you cant really say the turbo looks fine!

That sounds like when the tubby gave up tbh mate, and also it is a case of unbolting one turbo and putting on the other. If you need a turbo dont hesitate to give me a shout:)

yea, a "pop" then a whirring noise sounds to me like a boost leak..

seems very strange that you say you can't find one! I'd have a good look about i'm 99% sure that'll be it :) Hope you get it sorted man, hoepfully its something silly or a split pipe ;)

dave, i cant say i heard a pop to be honest as the exhaust is soo fucking loud its unreal! wouldnt hear a little pop... but yeah, a whirring noise as in wind going through the window and night time... that sort of sound....

Surely wind going through the window sounds the same whether its night or day!:p

When a hose pops off you'd certainly hear it, its like your dump valve going off but louder.

When my turbo shat itself it gradually got worse and didn't want to boost, it wasn't instant, so I don't think its the turbo.

I would say you have a boost leak somewhere, my hose to the boost gauge split once and wasn't making boost, obviously, but it wasn't as loud or noticeable as when an intercooler pipe pops off.

I'd just suggest giving every vaccuum hose and intercooler pipe a thorough check in the daylight.:)

aze_b td05 proper shit itself when compressor wheel nut came off and still would boost to 0.6 bar, and that was fucked, i am pretty sure ur pipe is poped of the wastegate diaphrapm (spl) is fucked, can't see it being turbo at all,

Although the over boost could be the cause of the problem it makes no sence for it too be the turbo. As the turbo has minimal shaft play and still turns freely and the fins aren't damaged. So that means if the hot side is getting enough pressurised gas going thru it has to produce boost, it is just physics.

Well no shaft play (as Dan said), no oil everywhere (as from the pics), no oil out of exhaust. That doesn't indicate a blown turbo at all.

I've blown a turbo myself (GT28RS) and the shaft play was rediculous after.

But i might be wrong who knows. You try and fix the easiest things first (boost leaks).
