LOL! Starting to get annoying now, you're too stubborn.

You seem perfectly happy to stay ignorant on this topic though so I'll let you carry on.

And 4wd may have twice as much grip when ACCELERATING because all wheels are being driven, but going round a corner you are NOT accelerating, a fwd car still has 4 tyres for cornering, so will have exactly the same lateral grip.

And yes when I was talking about exactly the same spec I mean suspension and handling wise.

so what your saying is you dont accelerate round a corner

that's exactly what I'm saying, if you are cornering to the limits of the tyres ability (and therefore taking the corner as fast as possible) then if you accelerate you will be going too fast for the tyres to cope and end up off the track (can't be gong that fast on the roads now) 4wd or 2wd is irrelevant

okay but what about in wet weather are you still saying fwd will be the same on corners ?

Cornering

I could be completely wrong but the way I drive is to get all my braking done before the corner and accelerate around the corner.I can get faster times driving this way.

Yep even in the wet, however the big difference comes in accelerating out of the corner, with big power (like what you want) you will be able to accelerate faster because you won have wheelspin, wheras a fwd in the wet or arond a slow corner with similar power to you would be spinning it all away

now your definatly wrong

Well really you should be on the limits of the tyres grip keeping a constant speed as you go round the corner, accelerating as you pass the apex and wind off some lock

well i down gear into a corner and use the power to pull me round it

That means you slow down past the potential peak cornering speed and then accelerate back upto it while cornering, not the quickest way but that topic is even more off track than the cornering speed argument! :homer:

this is silly,

It all depends on what corner and what conditions... I can tell you i dont take every bend the same,

But on a typical dry day, on most corners i do harsh braking approaching the corner, come in close to the apex then accelerate out of it....

In my FWD Starlet i wasnt able to do this quite so well due to how much power it had. It still worked but span right out of the corner, fast, but not as fast as a 4WD equivilant would do it. Or say a FWD car that wouldnt spin at all out of the corner......

I tell you a good LSD pulls you around beautifully in FWD cars, an asset to cornering.....

that's true, my point was that the cornering speed is the same though. In other words, lateral grip remains the same

Thats a fact providing your not on the right pedal as once you accelerate the reaction you get from the 4WD would differ to the FWD... Thats also providing your FWD car isnt overpowered as IMO they react fairly similar......

Loose both and they will both have a snapping oversteer action and both quite hard to bring back. Im talking about side ways action not a little loose back end....
