Starlets and the site going to pot ?

i can say it honestly makes me physically feel bad when i see starlets going for so little money. u can buy a saxo vtr for similar money and a starlet is twice the car mechanically, engine, gearbox, etc. i honestly think that in another 5 years starlets will be a bit like the charade gtti is now. very rare especially in good nick. hopefully parts will remain available from toyota.

ive always thought about getting newer cars like a scooby or a golf gt tdi etc etc list goes on and on but u just cant match the fun factor. i nearly sold my ep95 but so glad i came to my senses in time. i miss my glanza too. best car ive ever owned.

Think its pretty much been covered lol. We had a massive increase of new members and the common posts of how to up the boost, how to get 300hp etc etc but its settled back down. I put it down to this recession, the governments got that much of a tight grip on us that its virtually impossible to take a shit without them noticing. The 20% tax rate aswell is a flipping joke, utterly pointless putting it down to 15% to 'help' everyone and then re-coop the money the year after. Sooner we get these mugs out of power the better.

I completely agree with you Iain about the government, I think what the best thing to do with them is covered below, from 1.30 to 1.55 lol.

im still on here alot but it seems like there is no build threads or progress being made with starlets or glanzas anymore on here! I have done alot to my car since i got it and havent updated anything on here cause im not a paid member anymore and need to be again!

but the members garage system could be improved like uksc where its an actual thread and new posts show up for users!

also when i come on here i can see all the threads without loggin in which why is why i usualy just browse and dont comment!

not being mean to any one on toc (im on it) but its like the childs version of this place. without tgtt i wouldnt have bought a gt probably and this place has been a major lifeline so many times I reckon its quieter now but its still as good as always just alot of the shite has moved to other sites

i find that very funny really, its a toyota owners club, not car specific forum.. childs version of here? lol

that site is full of 16 year olds and tbh i think a lot pf ppl on that site either dont drive, or are young ppl that think they no it all..
now there is some good very helpful ppl there too..

not sayin it about every1, i use that site too.. but this site is aimed at starlet turbos and think of the amount of serious good cars that are on this site and were, they prob wouldnt be here without this site, mine wouldnt anyway cos i got lots of info and parts here..

sean, you were once young too, everyone was at one stage im sure... sure we have alot of young members but i cant seem to see these "know alls" your on about..? what do ya want us to do, not let any member join under the age of 20..? again, its a toyota forum, anyone is alowed to join like on any forum... heres something for yee tho, seen people moan on other forums about another forum is probably the most childish of things you can do.. :).. i think ill stick to helping out the 16 year olds, surprisingly they are wiser in some cases

It's different over here. Many of the EP owners I know in Barbados are very familiar with this site, most being members. We cannot import EPs anymore so most of us are caring and keeping the cars we have now even if they are not daily driven. Starlets are certainly not dying here, but are getting their botox and viagra to keep the relevant compared to new models being sold.
I have been around since the old site and I personally miss the technical discussions from back then. The thing is, there is no need for debates anymore. By now, upgrading and tuning a starlet is a time tested science and the awfully helpful section is where I go directly to if I need to reference anything. I am about to start a new project with my starlet, but there is simply no need to be asking technical questions or "opinions on this" questions because almost every aspect of these car has been dissected and presented in an idiot proof format on this site.

Oh...and I also depend on this site to purchase parts that we cannot get from our local dealers anymore. It's hard to believe my GT is 20 years old already...

there's too many knob end's just passed there test and asking stupid arse question's everyday, making the stalet's look gash and giving them a bad rep,
nothing worse than you spending money and time on your motor then the local chav in the next town got's the same car and think's his is the fastest car out there!! lol

same as every year. forum is quiet in winter time. but when spring is back the tuning starts again.

been tinkering with starlets for years now and no end in sight yet :D

so much to do :) so much to build, so much fun to be had with these little machines.

and less peeps isn't all bad. the ones that remain are the real deal, the real tinkerers. not just the snotnose kids that bought one, thrash em and sell it on again.

the build threads used to be the same on here as uksc as a part of the main forum. i always much preferred it how it used to be.

Yeah, have to admit I feel the same way lads.

Guess we jumped at the fancy new software modules a bit too soon. Should have done proper playtesting first.

The Garage section feels a bit seperated from the main forum, that being said it still sees some serious traffic!

The only problem with the members garage is if someone updates or posts in there, it doesn't show up when you click the New Posts button, which is the only button use on here.

Agreed, there are a couple of folks who have "build threads" on the actual forum (naughty :p) but they get much more interest and it's easier to quickly have a glance through and comment on them.

I'm happy with the fact that these little cars in decline - which I definately think they are, the amount that are being broken and bits off crashed one's being sold on ebay etc is much higher than it used to be and there are a lot less new ones coming from the homeland. I'm seeing a lot less on the roads too.

I'm of a similar opinon.
I know its not actually that much hassle to click members garage but for some reason I don't lol.

Yet I always look at " new car" or "new pics of car/parts" in the main forum.

I have been on here since I was 17 (I'm 24 now) and it was certainly a much busier place until a year ago or so. It is true however there used to be plenty of silly people asking silly questions and topics getting covered over and over that gets you bored a little.
I recently sold my Starlet of 6 years, but only to build a new drag machine along side our full drag EP thats coming along nicely now :) No matter how hard I try it's just in me I think. And the people that remained are some of the best folk around so conclusion I don't mind it being like this at all!

same here... were all kept busy by our starlets... u have the "in" crowd which follow for a while and bring loads of useless baggage with them.. then theres us hardcore oldies who will (until death do us part...or they tear us apart) that make this community all the more worthwile... Quality over Quantity as far as im concerend is always the best situation to have :D

the site has changed so much over the past 11 years iv been on it.. some of us are here to stay forever i guess lol... *ques Jay* :D :haha:
