drag radials are street regal drag tires like the bf goodridge , hoosier, and mickey thomsons. they are good enough to drive you to and from the dragstrip, but dangerous for cornering

yep as alex said they tend to give trouble around courners due to the soft sidewalls...

as for cyro treating the gears etc.. that does fuck all to them.. they didnt last longer on one of our drag cars.. still ripped the 3rd gear to bits like it was nothing... if hte 4wd gbox is similar to the 4efe one then it will hold pretty well..

as for changing the rear diff be careful u match the ratios to the gbox ones.. or once u try to move by a step ull pop the whole system to bits..

think about everything very carefully... personally what i would do is use the stock running gear, & as the NI boys do change/uprate what breaks... only thing i would change is the guardian shaft as its probably the weakest link.. get a machinist to increase the spline count & get it bigger... then cut & shorten one off an ae86 or escort mk1 ;)

cut it out, used a **4"** box section and a set of top mounts cut from scrap starlet, cut them down and welded to the top of box section,

Rear diff

I wish I had half of Stevens knowledge of all things EP and more.Stevens car is the benchmark for all of the rest of the 4wd's.He's not interested in bragging he's not interested in dyno figures but he is interested in 1/4 mile times and handling. He doesn't come on here much and he posts very little but when he does post you'd be well advised to listen. When he posts something be sure he has tried and tested it out.
the ae86 rear axle does look very similar but will the lsd fit,

AE86 rear diff doesn't fit directly. Halfshafts have a different diameter spline, pigs head is slightly different as well. but it can be made to work.

yer he seems like a top lad with some very good info !

makes u laugh when people say u cant run 200 and theyve probly never even seen a 4wd starlet in person

yet hes running 300

Some people are talking as if the 4wd somehow helps you corner faster, but a 2wd will corner just as fast. Only place the 4wd has an advantage is on the exit of a slow corner where a 2wd might get wheelspin

There is a lot of info being brought to the table in this thread. I'm also seeing a few unexperienced opinions being thrown in too.

I would advise listening to the firsthand experience and ignoring the rest Cole.

another EPIC FAIL

Not completely mate.....

The 4WD will be a better all rounder out the box for sure, but the main thing is that with the 4WD it will have alot more potential with more power and ease of use..... You will be confidant in using most of the power on straights as well as bends while a High powered FWD car is a much bigger task and with too much power, you will only be able to use say 60% as appose to 90% etc etc....

The 4WD however will promote understeer if you were to plant it with excessive power..... They will both have there pros and cons, just the 4WD will have more pros ;)

put it this way,

300BHP starlet FWD VS
300BHP 4WD

I will have my vote that the 4WD will win hands down in a short sprint as well as the corners.

still an epic fail in my eyes

why do all the rally cars use 4wd

because its the best simple as ....

LOL! I love it, epic fail you say?

Yes I've been in a few 4x4s, but you don't need to have ever travelled in a car to know that a 2wd will corner just as fast.

Can anybody explain to me how a 4wd gives you more grip going round a corner? No? Shame

You have exactly the same area of tyre in contact with the floor so how is the 4wd helping?

I look forward to the replies ;)

EDIT: rally cars use 4wd because it helps on the many surfaces they run on. How about every other form of motor racing? 2wd? Yup
